In one of the closest races in the history of the award, the 2025 Miss Volleyball winner was announced as Grosse Pointe South's [player_tooltip player_id='226886' first='Gabby' last='DiVita'] on Friday.

DiVita, a Nebraska commit that has been ranked among the top 2026 prospects in the country, received 182 points to edge Bloomfield Hills' [player_tooltip player_id='226909' first='Kayla' last='Nwabueze'] (166) and North Branch's [player_tooltip player_id='226888' first='Aubree' last='Deshetsky'] (160) for the honor.

“I was really honored to be named a finalist, that is a huge honor. (Winning) was definitely on my radar, but to be recognized with these great players is a big honor in itself,” DiVita said. “It's an amazing feeling to win. I think it shows the hard work that I have put in on and off the court for all these years. It's something that a lot of people have helped me get to and it's definitely something I've wanted.”

DiVita was surprised at school today as a team meeting was called, but more and more people from her high school and club career started to show up. That's when the light bulb started to go off that she had won.

“My mom told me she had found out a week ago and kept it from me and I couldn't believe that,” DiVita said. “I was just in shock and overcome and grateful to be recognized with the award.”

DiVita came into her prep career with plenty of buzz. She was winning national championships already at the club level with Legacy while playing up an age level, so being an immediate leader of a varsity team as a freshman was not too daunting of a task.

“Since Gabby walked in our gym at 11 years old, her competitive spirit oozed out of her. No matter where she was in her development or the size of the moment, she was always ready to battle and compete,” [program_tooltip program_id='430319' first='Legacy' last='Volleyball Club'] Director Jennifer Cottrill said.

“Growing up in a volleyball gym with her mom, who coaches, and her sister Jada, who also played, Gabby's volleyball IQ has always been off the charts. She has always been one of the best passers in the gym as an outside hitter and her ability to score from anywhere on the court makes her one of the best outside hitters in the country. It has been an absolute joy to watch Gabby mature and grow into the player she is now, she has always strived to be the best and never settle for less than that all while doing it with her heart on her sleeve.”

At the prep level, DiVita was one of the state's most dominant finishers at the net each year of her career at GP South. She approached 2,000 career kills while hitting .407 over the four seasons. That included her senior year where she had over 600 kills while hitting .421.

DiVita wasn't just a one-trick pony, as she was also a great defensive asset with over 1,100 career digs, over 130 career blocks, and over 200 aces.

Over her four years with the Blue Devils, DiVita led her program to four district championships in Division 1, as well as a pair of regional final appearances. She was part of the Division 1 All-State Team each year, including First Team as a junior, and a likely First Team selection this year as a senior.

“I like being in situations where the weight is on me and there's a lot of pressure. I feel like I play my best in those situations,” DiVita said of being a leader since she was a freshman. “I am grateful that my teammates looked to me to be a leader, even at a young age, and I could help provide what I could to the team.”

DiVita will now prep herself to join one of the top college programs in the nation, Nebraska, for the start of the 2026 fall season. She will join fellow recent Miss Volleyball winners Campbell Flynn (2024) and Harper Murray (2022) on the Cornhuskers' roster.

“I am going to try and soak it all in,” DiVita said of her development into a college player. “I am going to be young and have a lot to learn, and there is really no better place to do that than Nebraska. I just want to learn from the coaches and my teammates and continue to work hard to become a better player. I'm really excited for the opportunity.”
