2026 Club Team Preview: Ohana 17 National

We'd like to keep rolling up until the new campaign gets underway next month. The more squads we can write about, the better. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>To do that, club directors need to supply rosters. We've requested some of them via email and written about the clubs that have responded.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ohana was kind enough to supply a lineup for its 17U national team. Its 16U national team advanced to the Gold Bracket at last year's Iowa Regional and enjoyed a strong season overall. Lacking the profile of some of the bigger clubs, it was a great story.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The performance adds intrigue to the state's 17U picture in 2026. With much of the roster intact from last year, Ohana coud make it interesting at regionals once again. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Good teams need power at the pin, and Ohana certainly has that. [player_tooltip player_id='730403' first='Delaynee' last='Steele'] helped Norwalk reach the Class 4A state tournament this season, ranking second on the squad with 215 kills (.326) and 64.0 blocks. She's a versatile front-row performer capable of hitting on either side or in the middle while also being a factor defensively. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Speaking of defense, Ohana boasts one of the state's top young liberos in West Des Moines Valley sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='763526' first='Myla' last='Rude']. She came up with 364 digs this season in helping the Tigers reach the Class 5A state semifinals. Her 109 assists illustrate her ability to be effective with the two ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Setter Emma VandenHull and Sydney Sung, a defensive specialist, provided depth for a Centennial team that advanced to the Class 5A state title match this season. The Jaguars played a 6-2 with two scholarship senior setters. VandenHull would have played more on most other teams in Iowa and gives Ohana a high-end option at the spot.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ballard's Halle Garner provides this outfit another strong defender in the back row to pair with Rude. The junior registered 364 digs in 2025. She also chipped in with 49 assists.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Class 5A state champion Waukee Northwest supplies Abby Olsel&nbsp;and [player_tooltip player_id='493610' first='Caroline' last='Dobbs'] to this Ohana team. They practice against some of the top players in Iowa everyday. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Dowling reached the state tournament again in 2025. Kennedy Hobbs added important depth to that program and will be counted on to put the ball down from the outside for Ohana. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grace Procyk joins Rude as the other player on Ohana playing up this season. The Class of 2028 prospect developed this year in a Dallas Center-Grimes program that reached the Class 4A state tournament. The 6-foot-1 middle hitter has a chance to take a step forward this club campaign.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Des Moines Roosevelt opened eyes this season by winning 19 matches. Iyanna Gibson was a keep part of the Roughriders' rotation. The junior ranked among the team leaders with 74 kills and 33.0 blocks, and also kicked in 63 digs. She'll team up with Olsel to give Ohana a pair of two-way performers in the middle of the net.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
