Austin’s All-17s/18s Team from Prep Dig Quad Cities Quest

We're leading off with the heavy hitters.   What a weekend in Davenport. I spend most of my time covering my Nebraska homeland, but I've been on a bit of a Hawkeye State swing lately. Last weekend's Prep Dig Quad Cities Quest marked my second trip to an Iowa tournament in the last three weeks, giving me another valuable glimpse into the Midwest's future prep stars. This one was worth the trek.   We have so many storylines, angles, and standouts to cover from a full weekend of action. First, though, it's time to drum up “ol' reliable.” I've challenged myself to form an all-tournament team at each of my circuit stops, so we're doing it again for the Quad Cities Clash. My coverage focus was on the 17s/18s group, and we have no shortage of options to choose from.   After a day of deliberation, our team has been assembled.    Sweers was exceptional from the first whistle last weekend, but her Sunday output alone elevated her to [program_tooltip program_id='432160' first='[program_tooltip program_id='432076' first='[program_tooltip program_id='430137' first='[program_tooltip program_id='429142' first='MVP' last='']' last='']' last='']' last=''] status. We were already acquainted with Sweers' takeover potential as a frontcourt hitter. She has thrived on the Prep Dig Circuit before, and I've been fortunate enough to cover some of that success. However, Sweers' six-rotation game was the storyline in Davenport. Her lethal serve pushed 17 Mizuno across the finish line in Sunday's championship match, and Sweers' competitive fire shone. This was a complete weekend from a top-tier 2027 prospect.     Why not venture on the other side of the dial? Tegeler was the perfect complement to Sweers at Iowa Select 17 Mizuno's left-side hitter position. As mentioned in Saturday's pin hitter feature, Tegeler boasted a level of athleticism and explosiveness that were nearly unparalleled at the Quad Cities Quest. Her eye-popping broad jump captured the spotlight in home territory, and Tegeler is primed to take that show on the road.     We have our 17 Mizuno outside hitter duo, but let's move into the middle. Green-Huffman was among the most well-rounded middles at last weekend's event and was perhaps the best slide hitter in the gym. 17 Mizuno's two-hitter rotations offered opportunities for Green-Huffman to do serious damage. She can uncork down the line or in the crosscourt, so good luck trying to put together a gameplan against this game-wrecking talent.     Let's give one more nod to the high-flying senior. Moeller has established herself as Iowa Select 18 Mizuno's leading attacker, but that's only part of the story. She patrolled the middle-back area with incredible confidence and stayed involved on the pipe in first-ball situations. The SIU-Carbondale commit has proven she's ready to make a splash at the next level.     Iowa knows how to bring libero talent to the Prep Dig Circuit. Haedt has produced her share of noteworthy moments at our showcases, but she added some incredible competitive reps through the Quad Cities Quest. The Kirkwood College pledge was impenetrable in the crosscourt and kept 18 Mizuno in a rhythm when taking secondary sets. A well-rounded defensive leader can be the catalyst to tournament success, as we saw with 18 Mizuno's runner-up effort.     DuPage Elite 17 United was the lone challenger to Iowa Select's hegemony in the 17s/18s semifinals. Norkett was a key factor in that barnstorming journey and exhibited her extraordinary development at the outside hitter spot. She became increasingly comfortable with unconventional shots as the weekend wore on. This creativity pushed 17 United through some marathon matches and put Norkett on our radar heading into future qualifiers.     Let's revisit Iowa One's stellar lefty opposite. Like many of the aforementioned players on this feature, Schneider earned a shoutout on our pin feature after Iowa One's impressive Saturday run in Davenport. 17U Aly frequently leveraged their southpaw terminator en route to a 4-2 overall mark at the Quad Cities Quest. Even while playing against several Iowa Select powerhouses, Schneider rose to prominence.     Iowa One's prowess on the right pin was not limited to the opposite position. Whenever Schneider rotated into the back row, Clayton stepped up to provide the same physicality and aggression as the team's setter. This versatile athlete is ready-made for a 5-1 system, as Clayton is not afraid to challenge opposing hitters while blocking in the front row. Of course, this setter gets an all-tournament nod for her uncanny distribution skills, too.     We had to draft two opposites for this all-tournament team, as this feature wouldn't be complete without Walter. She was the focal point of RJ'Z 17-1's entire operation--a distinction not often given to a right-side hitter. Walter's long frame allowed her to go over the top and wield infinite range in the front row. However, her influence in the offense didn't wane in the backcourt, either. All-around right-side hitters are a bit of a lost art, but Walter is keeping this niche alive.     We have another void to fill in the middle, and this one comes from the Class of 2028. Downing ascends two age groups to compete with Stateline Pride's top 18s team, and the move is clearly paying dividends. She took over the net with her length and made it easy to forget that she was facing older peers. Downing is particularly effective on "one-tempo" sets in front of the setter, but her range on the slide also produced highlight moments. The Illinois-Indiana line has its share of hidden gems.     Sure, we have a lot of pin hitters on our all-tournament roster. We couldn't help ourselves after countless athletes like Jozwiak made an instant impression on the Davenport stage. Chicago Elite 17 Nike made a surprise run to Sunday's quarterfinals behind Jozwiak's fearless attitude and heavy arm. Her eagerness to slug through blocks set the tone for the rest of 17 Nike's offense.
