It is easy to do based on the past in this sport out there, but a number of young players in the mountainous eastern part of the state have emerged in recent seasons. These four especially fit that bill.

Short (pictured) is learning to become a dominant libero for the Tigers. She makes quality two to three-point passes consistently letting Paintsville set up the lethal offense. Her platform is on par most of the team and she makes sure she does not lightly send over free balls. Short had 390 digs in the fall, helping the Tigers go 28-11, win the 57th District crown and drive back to the 15th Region title game.

Lee County used to be a fixture in the 14th Region Tournament. Evans hopes to help propel the Kats back there for the first time since 2022 after emerging to lead Lee County kills. Evans produces from all six spots on the court. She makes simple passes and takes quality swings in the front row. Evans also has a sound line drive serve and brings a lot of enthusiasm to the court. Evans had 210 kills, 260 digs and 52 aces in the fall for Lee County.

Hall has been a driven individual for the Eagles for years. She makes solid passes and is a hustler on the court. She avoids putting herself in bad position behind blockers. She puts balls at the top of her hitters' peaks when she sets balls. Hall had 229 digs and 201 assists for the Eagles in the fall, helping them go 19-15 and make it back to the 15th Region Tournament.

King stepped in and helped give the Patriots a solid defense in the fall. She could turn into a sound versatile player before it is over these next three years. She steps into position and square her arms up with balls trying to get Knott County Central into a good offensive rhythm. King has a deceptive line drive jump serve. She may asked to swing some more with the graduation of some key players. King had 218 digs and 92 aces in the fall, helping Knott County Central go 36-3, drive to the Championship Flight of the All "A" State Tournament, win a fourth straight 53rd District crown and a second straight 14th Region crown.
