The goal is highlighting as many teams as possible before we get the season underway next month. Then we'll shift to scouting reports and roundups from real matches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The preseason process works best when directors get us rosters or point us to where they're posted on line. Any year, in any given age group, you'll likely find a contender for best squad in the state. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Plex 15-1 possesses the players to make that be the case among its peers in 2026. The roster consists of quite a few performers from the organization's 14-1 Mendieta squad that finished 29th in the Open Division at the AAU Nationals in Orlando at the end of last season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This team has a reliable weapon in the back row. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='880642' first='Sidney' last='Bryan'] is coming off a freshman season at Dowling Catholic where she was the team's starter. She paced the Maroons with 207 digs and added 56 assists. She'll team up with Alexis Dolan, who impressed me with her performance at the Northern Lights and Iowa Regional qualifiers a year ago. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A number of these student-athletes attend high schools whose volleyball programs boast much of the state's top talent. While they may not have impacted the varsity in 2025, the freshman class will deliver key contributions in the future.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='780317' first='Brooklyn' last='Walker'] developed on the Waukee Northwest freshman A team this fall. The Wolves varsity put together a historically successful season in winning the 5A championship. Walker has flashed the potential to be a factor in the program in the near future.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>At Centennial, [player_tooltip player_id='612152' first='Ella' last='Whitver'] and [player_tooltip player_id='907591' first='Sophia' last='Carreon'] developed on the freshman A team while the varsity reached its first-ever state championship match. That squad graduates a lot of talent, and opportunity for Whitver, Carreon and others will be there. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Luella Craig recorded 93 assists and 22 digs in 16 varsity sets on a Waukee varsity ranked in the state's Top 10 all season. She could play an important role in returning the Warriors to the state tournament in 2026 and should do that with Plex this club campaign. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='778584' first='Ellie' last='Brunkhorst'] played up with the Dowling Catholic junior varsity as a freshman in 2025. She stood out to me during the Iowa Regional last season and then again at the Prep Dig Midwest Live Showcase in June. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ames reached a regional final, where it fell to eventual state champ Waukee Northwest. The Little Cyclones employed a pair of impressive freshmen during the campaign. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='853815' first='Addison' last='Lynch'] handed out 260 assists in 87 sets, adding 31 kills and 101 digs in 5A play. Middle hitter [player_tooltip player_id='893276' first='Gabby' last='Timmermans'] contributed 97 kills and 40.0 blocks. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='889855' first='Reese' last='Harlan'] enjoyed a fabulous freshman season at Atlantic in 2025. She paced the Trojans with 279 kills (.220) and ranked second in digs (284). </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='790687' first='Hailey' last='Reinders'] is a Class of 2030 prospect playing up with 15-1.
