We're all about multi-position standouts--especially if players are still early in their prep journey.

Athletes are seldom tethered to a single position throughout their playing careers. This is generally true of any sport, and change-ups are particularly common during those initial development stages. Nebraska's Class of 2029 has only logged one year of high school experience, so we can expect scouting reports to evolve over the next few years.

That trend has compelled us to highlight some of the versatile gems on our first 2029 watch list. We've already seen some multi-talented players arise, and we'll add a few more to the list after this year's club season.

For now, here are a few to keep on your radar.

We were bound to discuss this Omaha Westside freshman eventually. Harlan excelled with one of Class A's most prominent powerhouses, producing triple-digit kills on a 0.236 clip for the semifinalist Warriors. This dynamic athlete did most of her damage in the middle last fall, but that narrative might evolve as Harlan rejoins her Nebraska Elite crew. She has taken reps on the outside and could emerge as a leading scorer on Nebraska's 15s circuit.

Middle-pin hybrids could be a prevailing theme in Nebraska's Class of 2029. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller wielded Jones in several different gaps along the net, allowing her to climb the scoring charts in her debut season. Jones averaged nearly two kills per set last season and helped push the Mustangs back to the state tournament after a one-year hiatus. Her volume will soar in Year 2.

In case you missed our weekend coverage, we were fortunate enough to hang out at the new Premier Nebraska facility to kick off the 2026 season. That visit taught us a lot about emerging 15s prospects, and Falcone immediately stood out in the Premier 15 Gold lineup. She's a smooth setter when operating the offense out of the back row, but she can also carry a frontcourt opposite role when needed. This Gretna East standout boasts the physicality and finesse required to thrive in either role, giving 15 Gold plenty of options to explore this spring.

Yutan High School was one of the biggest stories of last year's tournament, ending Johnson County Central's undefeated season in the quarterfinal round. It's perhaps even more impressive that the No. 8 seed was aided by a do-everything freshman with enormous stat-stuffing potential. Frye piled up numbers in every category as setter-opposite, finishing with over 3.4 assists per set, 2.2 digs per set, and over 100 total kills in 2025. It's a rare niche for a first-year player, but Yutan wasn't afraid to defy some trends.

Showcases tend to bring the best out of multi-position players. Wehrle primarily patrolled the outside hitter spot for Battle Creek last fall, and the Braves got an immediate scoring influx from their Class of 2029 attacker. We watched Wehrle take over matches en route to 164 total kills and an ever-escalating hitting efficiency. However, Wehrle has also proven her intensity can translate to the back row. She averaged 2.6 digs per set in the middle-back area and was an influential part of defensive drills at last year's Nebraska Exposure Tour. Nebraska D-League will help add a chapter to the narrative this spring.

We're closing out strong with one of Nebraska's leading freshman scorers from last fall's high school season. Ickes wasted no time establishing herself in the O'Neill St. Mary's lineup and was the team's second-leading terminator in 2025. Her 3.4 kills per set ranked in Nebraska's top ten among 2029s, but her ability to change up shots was perhaps the most impressive part of Ickes' ascent. She found daylight in the middle, on the outside, and everywhere in between for the Cardinals. Opposing blockers always need to know where this high-flying attacker plans to operate.
