It's early in the club season, but L2 161 has been able to display some positives that give them reason to believe they can shake up the club scene in Michigan this year.

A team with plenty of depth and good leadership is coached by Eric Lindstrom, and looks to be getting better with each week.

Setting & Defense

L2 will be needing a lot from its key leadership positions of setter and defenders. [player_tooltip player_id='579822' first='Addison' last='Dresch'] is the lone setter on the roster and she's showed some good promise. Her reading of the court consistently improves, as she knows when to call her own number, while still being able to get her hitters a good swing. Defensively [player_tooltip player_id='806848' first='Myla' last='Bellavoine'] and Kylie McHale both come from the Novi program, which has been able to build high-level defenders, and these two show much of the same traits. These two should look a lot sharper at the end of the club season.

Power On The Pins

L2 is going to be working with some athletic outsides who move around the court well. Sophia Stanavich, Zoe Moulton and [player_tooltip player_id='808066' first='Nevaeh' last='Streich'] make up the three outside options and each has been able to shine in the position during their high school play and now in club. On the right side, [player_tooltip player_id='828549' first='Audrey' last='Walters'] provides a 6-foot option that makes this offense a little more flexible and gives Dresch more variety to work with.

Middle Talent

In the middle, L2 161 has three different players it can cycle in and each is able to bring their own flavor to the position. Addy Mack is a 6-footer that can cover a lot of space in her attacks and blocking. [player_tooltip player_id='881403' first='Abigail' last='Dafforn'] isn't far behind in size, and she has some good footwork and energy to mix in. Emma Garrett is an explosive middle that likes to compete, and her work ethic will help this team win some tough points.

Expectations

L2 is coming off a tough weekend in the Nike North Coast Cup, but the 3-5 record isn't quite indicative of how the team played. The sets were pretty close in most cases, and the team picked up a pair of three-set victories that should their resilience and fight. There's some good things this group can build off of and learn from. Look for L2 161 to pick up some “upsets” in the months ahead as they continue to find the right recipes for success.
