Day two of Hoosier Regionals, like any bracket day in any qualifier, is always a little bit louder. With four bids being handed out per age group—-the most in this author's memory in Indiana—-there were plenty of opportunities to earn a bid to the hometown GJNC's happening later this summer. Walking around the courts, here's what caught my eye.

The first kid that caught my eye on Sunday wasn't even from Indiana. Kaitlin is a tough and strong middle that uses her brute strength and constant transitional speed to beat most blocks she goes against. I like that toughness from a middle, as a lot of Indiana is filled with lean, not-as-strong middles that might not make it through the first season at the next level Kaitlin is definitely someone who understands work ethic, power, strength and has a high volleyball IQ to make this game seem easy.

Another kid crossing the state line to play club in Indiana, Ella was the main reason the Dunes 17 Black squad stayed in system for the majority of the day. With active feet and a consistently calm platform, receiving serves comes easy to Ella. In defense, she reads and reacts well, and makes up for some deficiencies of her fellow front-row-heavy teammates.

Jenna is the “glue” kid that's needed to perform at the highest level in order to keep up with all of the exceptional ball that was played this past weekend. Always at the center of every first contact, reception and coverage ball, Jenna's constant active voice and play kept her NIVA Purple squad in plays more often than not, and will be a huge addition for any school needing exactly that in the fall of ‘27.

It seems that every time I see Miss Mays play, she's added another part to her prodigious volleyball skill set. This time around, she's starting to really terminate slide plays with wicked efficiency. Time and again, she was the primary attacker behind the setter in the regional semifinal against a plucky Rev squad, and Rev had little to no defense for that slide. Yes, she's already 6'2” and should use her length and stride to take advantage of the speed of the set. However, as I've alluded to before, there aren't too many middles in Indiana that have the size, speed, strength and skill set to be next-level ready as a middle. Milana should definitely be counted as one of the best in her graduating class at her position, and she's only getting better from here.

New to me, but certainly not to the game of volleyball, Ella REALLY stood out when it mattered most on Sunday. No, she didn't put on the libero jersey during the time I saw her, but was used as a three-rotation DS for her 16 Volt squad. Regardless of score or situation, Ella stayed vigilant to playing 100% throughout her match, picking up garbage balls, receiving serve well and digging hard-driven attacks from opponents. With enough training, she could transition to a more solid role as the libero, as her presence alone made her squad that much better.

Easily one of the smoothest setters in this or any class in Indiana, Maggie has high, strong hands that have already become accustomed to a faster, open-level offense while also playing up an age group. Her maturity shows when things go south on her side, and I think she's still growing—-I might have to double-check her 6'1” height listed, as she looks closer to 6'2”. I'd like to see her take advantage of that height of hers too; already a solid blocker, she should take advantage offensively when she's in the front row. No worries, however, as that can be taught in the training gym. She's one of the best in her class, and I would not be surprised if she were the first setter off of the board for the class of ‘28.
