Social media can amplify an athlete's game, but only when what's being shared reflects real habits, real growth, and real accountability.

At PrepDigCA, we look beyond the flash. We pay attention to what an athlete chooses to highlight, how often she shows up, and whether her posts tell a story of consistency over time. The clips that matter most are not always the loudest ones. They are the ones that quietly reinforce who a player is when the play breaks down, when reps get repetitive, and when improvement requires patience.

This week's Social Media Stars of the Week: Process Over Hype feature athletes who understand that visibility works best when it mirrors the work. These players are not posting for attention alone. They are documenting progress, reinforcing standards, and showing college coaches what their habits look like long before results are final.

[player_tooltip player_id='888518' first='Jaylnn' last='Reed']: Social Media Star of the Week

💡 Game You're Proud Of

I'm most proud of my blocking and how much I've improved reading the game. As a middle, I focus a lot on timing, footwork, and being disciplined with my hands, and I currently lead my team in blocks. Blocking is my biggest strength right now, and I'm proud of how much I've grown reading hitters and being disciplined at the net.

Before the season started, I put in a lot of extra work training with Coach Kiy (@trainwithcoachkiy) and JVPA (@socal_jvpa). That training really helped my footwork, transition, timing, and confidence, and I feel like it prepared me to compete at a higher level once the season began. So now, when I compete in tournaments, there is no pressure because I've been competing against high schoolers and college athletes the whole offseason.

📲 Why This Post Mattered

Being featured on PrepDig CA meant a lot to me because it felt like recognition for all the work I've been putting in behind the scenes. Most of my progress comes from early mornings, extra reps, and staying consistent even when no one is watching, so seeing that work acknowledged was really motivating.

It also helped boost my confidence and belief in myself. At my age, it's easy to question if you're doing enough or improving fast enough, and being featured reminded me that staying focused on development and effort matters. I've learned that the work you do before the season matters just as much as what you do during it.

PrepDig gives athletes a platform, but for me it's more than exposure. It pushes me to hold myself to a higher standard, represent my team the right way, and keep earning opportunities through hard work and consistency. It made me excited to keep building my journey and seeing how far I can go.

🧠 What Coaches Should Know

I want college coaches to know that I'm not just passionate about volleyball. I play with purpose. I'm hardworking, coachable, and I take every practice seriously. I love being coached, learning new things, and pushing myself to get better, even when it's hard.

A big reason I am the player I am today is because of my family. They have been with me every step of the way, supporting me, pushing me, and believing in me even when things were tough. My dad has played a big role in my journey. He's supported me every step of the way and helped guide me through training, mindset, and preparation. Watching him help my sister through her journey to becoming a Division I athlete showed me what dedication, consistency, and sacrifice really look like. Seeing that process up close made me believe that big goals are possible if you're willing to work for them and commit to the process.

Volleyball became even more important to me after I lost my brother and best friend JR in 2018. Going through that at a young age shaped who I am and how I approach the game. I play every game in memory of my brother and best friend JR, and that pushes me to give my best every time I step on the court.

There are days when training is hard or when I feel tired, but I think about my family, my brother, and everything my dad has poured into helping me grow, not just as an athlete, but as a person. Volleyball gives me a place to channel my emotions and stay focused, and it's taught me resilience, gratitude, and how to keep showing up no matter what.

I'll always bring effort, heart, and appreciation into the gym. I don't take this journey for granted, and I'm committed to becoming the best teammate, player, and person I can be.

[player_tooltip player_id='888518' first='Jaylnn' last='Reed']

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='474505' first='Raneighla' last='Gonzalez']: Social Media Star of the Week

💡 Game You're Proud Of

Definitely the speed of my swing, the speed of my transition, and the speed of my swing block. Perfecting my line shot while on the pin has become one of my new favorite things. Covering and picking up a block touch is new, and I love it.

📲 Why This Post Mattered

Coaches get to see me in the showcasing role, which is so important for them to see me in that position in high-pressure situations.

🧠 What Coaches Should Know

I love hard coaching! Please critique me, tell me what to fix so I can make it applicable. I'm completely open to skills, techniques, training, IQ...I want it all. I do hope that as I am entering my recruiting journey, high school and university coaches will know that it isn't the highlights, but my commitment to learning, growing at my second home, the LOVB - MAC, being challenged, and having a hungry underdog mindset, constant self-belief that the sky is the limit. I am grateful for coaches giving me the opportunity to join their existing lessons to pass, set, or hit.

🧠 What Coaches Should Know

I enjoy learning independently on my own from the abundance of film online from athletes and teams I look up to. I love to watch and rewatch our matches and others' from the baseline, especially high-caliber matches in person at nearby high school and college matches, online, YouTube, ESPN, and Volleyball World. I am excited to be able to attend more LOVB matches Season 2. I got to attend the D1 Final Four, and it was beyond thrilling!

Most importantly, I am recognizing the most important training is the next-point mindset and learning tools for resetting, calming, and connecting with my teammates in between points.

Fun fact for coaches to know: my very first volleyball camps were Zoe Fleck (now Zoe Jarvis) All Out Volleyball in LA, Out of System Camp in Sacramento with Coach Joe and Gage Worsley, and CSULB Camp at the Gold Mine with Coach Nick McRae. I am beyond grateful they incorporate the importance of growth mindset, film review, and dreaming big - adopting an attitude of gratitude and heart-and-hustle mentality.

KJ also loves singing, dancing, theater, and learning to crochet for fun.

Kaeley “KJ” Johnston

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

If You Enjoyed This Article, Help Us Keep the Momentum Going

🔥 Players
Use this article to grow.
