I positioned myself courtside, watching hand positioning, timing, and discipline — and the athletes who stood out weren't just jumping high. They were sealing seams, pressing over the net, and taking away angles with authority.

The best blockers weren't guessing — they were reading. They tracked the setter's shoulders, closed late gaps, and formed disciplined double blocks that forced hitters into low-percentage swings. You could see strong eye sequencing, disciplined footwork on pin transitions, and hands penetrating deep into the opponent's space. These weren't accidental touches — these were statement blocks.

From the first few rallies, Lily Kujath established herself as a presence in the middle. What stood out immediately was her blocking discipline. She pressed over the net with strong hand positioning, sealing line and taking away sharp cross-court angles. Her footwork along the net was efficient — no wasted steps — allowing her to close blocks cleanly on pin transitions.

Offensively, Lily was quick in transition. She did a strong job getting off the net after reading defense and reloading for quick tempo in front. Her connection on first-tempo sets forced opposing middles to commit early, which opened the outside lanes for her teammates. Lily didn't just occupy space — she controlled it. Her ability to stay lateral and disciplined made her one of the most consistent middles on Day 1. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='587048' first='Anna' last='Jaeger'] brought physicality to the net. Watching from courtside, you could see her explosiveness on takeoff and her ability to penetrate deep into the opponent's space on blocks. She wasn't just touching balls — she was terminating rallies with stuff blocks that shifted momentum.

In offense, Anna showed confidence running both the quick in front and the slide behind. Her approach was decisive, and she attacked at full extension, keeping the ball high and fast off her hand. Even when the set drifted, she adjusted midair and found hands or deep corners. What separated Anna was her aggressive mindset — she played every rally with intent and made hitters think twice about swinging into her block. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='745548' first='Briana' last='Rusch'] played the middle position with a high volleyball IQ. She tracked the setter's release well and timed her block jumps based on hitter tempo rather than guessing. From my angle, you could see her reading shoulder direction and adjusting her hand positioning to take away high-percentage shots.

Offensively, Briana was efficient. She didn't over-swing — she placed the ball with purpose. Whether it was snapping sharp angles or tooling the outside hand of the block, she made smart decisions. In transition, she worked hard to get available, creating quick options that kept the defense honest. Briana's consistency and awareness were key components of her Day 1 performance. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Violet Kory brought energy and length to the net. Her wingspan created problems for opposing hitters, especially when closing late on double blocks. She showed strong lateral speed along the net, reading the outside set and getting her hands across to seal the seam.

On offense, Violet was effective running tight tempo sets. She attacked aggressively in front, keeping her elbow high and contacting the ball at peak jump. In broken plays, she stayed engaged — transitioning quickly from block to approach and making herself available as an option. Violet's motor stood out. She competed every rally and consistently influenced the front-row battle. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Kathleen Geimer played with poise and control. From courtside, what stood out was her patience at the net. She didn't overcommit — she stayed balanced, read the play, and sealed the block at the right moment. Her hands were strong and firm, redirecting balls straight down rather than deflecting them out.

Offensively, Kathleen showed smooth timing with her setter. She was effective on quick tempo and demonstrated good spatial awareness, finding gaps between defenders when the block pressed inside. She also contributed in serve-receive transitions, quickly turning defense into offense. Kathleen's steady presence anchored her team at the net and gave them stability in tight sets. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Thank you to all my readers for making this journey possible.
