Iowa was well represented and represented well at the event.

Here's a closer look at standout middle hitters from the event for whom I'd not yet written evaluations this club season:

Asche is a part of an impressive 1-2 punch in the middle of the net for CIA 15 Black, which finished third at the USAV Iowa Regional this year. It earned it an American Division bid to this summer's national tournament in Indianapolis. Asche is a presence as a two-way performer at her position. She's powerful on the attack with explosion off the court and a solid vertical leap. The Dunkerton freshman gets on top of the ball and has a good idea where to direct the attack. She can put it down off of standard sets with a good feel on quicks as well. Asche keenly reads the opposing attack, flowing with the action and getting in position to throw up an effective block. She started all 42 of Dunkerton's matches on the way to state semifinals, where the Raiders fell against eventual Class 1A champion Saint Ansgar. The ninth-grader contributed 82 kills (.248) and 99.0 blocks. Asche flashed her athleticism and agility with 266 digs. She's a prospect to watch moving forward, one with a sizable ceiling.

Schneider has steadily improved when watching her compete during the last few club and prep seasons. She advanced her game from seeing her with CIA last season to her performance at the Prep Dig Sizzle last August to in-person scouting opportunities this club campaign. The Knight sophomore plays the game aggressively whether she's attacking or looking to stop the opponent's offense. My most recent chance to see her compete live happened at the 2026 ASICS Show Me National Qualifier during Mid-April in Kansas City. Against strong competition in the event, Schneider stood out. A player with good bounce, she handles quicks well and also can rise up well over the net for standard sets. Schneider reads the defense well and finds holes to exploit. She identifies blocks sharply to get around them or go through them. A good athlete, Schneider moves smooth laterally and puts herself in position to record blocks. The 10th-grader came up with 231 kills (.238) and 126.0 blocks last season, numbers that will likely rise this fall based on her current level of play.

I finally received an opportunity to watch PowerPlex 16 Nelson during the 2026 ASICS Show Me National Qualifier during mid-April in Kansas City. It's a roster filled with talented players, and Molden certainly ranks highly among that group. The Johnston sophomore impacts matches as a two-way performer in the middle of the net. Beyond her height, Molden benefits from having long arms and recognizable explosiveness in her game. She started all 32 of the Dragons' matches last fall, generating 150 kills and 39.0 blocks on a rebuilding roster. That she came up with 91 digs speaks to her agility for a taller girl. Molden is a smart volleyball player that sees the court well and learns from opponent tendencies. When you watch her play, there's communication and sharing of information with her teammates on a regular basis. It helps them stay connected and rowing in the same direction. Molden looks like a player that's steadily rising as a prospect, one that could really break out in school ball this coming campaign.

Grover has long been a prospect packed with potential. The Indianola junior really began realizing it in the last year. That led to colleges gaining interest in her and, eventually, a commitment to Wayne State, a solid Division II program. Grover hasn't rested on her accomplishments if two recent in-person scouting opportunities are any indication. She impressed with her play during Indianola's improbable run to the state tournament in November, but took another step forward against top competition during April's Adidas Windy City National Qualifier and ASICS Show Me National Qualifier in Kansas City. Grover has a great feel for defending at the net. It results from a combination of height, leaping ability, long arms and feel for flowing with the opposing attack. Odds of getting a block or altering swings go up when there's proper positioning and angles taken, which she shows an excellent knack for doing. It led to 53.0 blocks in the fall, when she also produced 280 kills (.223). Already one of the state's better 2027s, there's room for plenty more, which should be exciting for the Warriors fans at Wayne State.

Wedo is a player with whom I've become very familiar. She is a teammate of our daughter on Rockets 15R this season. It's been fun watching the Linn-Mar freshman improve as the campaign has advanced. Wedo's defensive ability is her calling card. Fans of the game understand the value of a deterrent in the middle of the net, which describes her well. Much of her success in blocking and changing opposing attacks occurs thanks to a combination of factors. Wedo regularly reads where the two ball is headed, moves herself into position and gets off of the court quickly to meet the swing. She also possesses the requisite height and long arms at the position. Those traits make Wedo a threat on offense, too. When given the opportunity, athleticism and explosion lead to a potent attack. There's also a chance for significant growth in this area of the game with more repetitions, which will increase confidence. Wedo is definitely one to watch for the Lions in 2026.
