Her positioning was always stop-on, as she got many touches on defense and consistently had her body behind the ball to make the first contact in serve-receive, keeping her errors very low. Smith also demonstrated superior quality in setting in transition, as she frequently used her hands to set teammates up at the net. The libero led their serve-receive system with authority and confidence, taking over a large area of the court and keeping her team in-system. Mansfield also contributed on defense, showing excellent ball control to deal with swings and nice mobility to chase tips and deflected shots. Ciulla's solid technique and ball control appeared every time she made a play on the back row, be it dealing with a tough serve or preventing a swing from getting to the floor.
