Setters, by their very nature, are always under the radar. They accept all of the responsibility, take all of the blame for others' errors, and very rarely have an opportunity to “show off” their skill set in the form of scoring points and making a difference. However, this author knows how to find the “diamond in the rough”, so to speak. Here are five setters from around the state that have not received the most publicity this club season, but should be receiving a ton more as we wrap up this spring and summer.

Smooth as silk and uber athletic, Sophie has wonderful hands, location that's nearly impeccable, and defends her position at an above-average level. While most 1s-level setters try to add a little flash and flare to their game, Miss Rahmany is as steady as she goes, and does her job with reliability and consistency. Big enough to run a 5-1 and quick enough to get to pretty much every type of pass, Sophie hovers under the radar doing a brilliant job at TI.

An undersized overachiever, Carrie locates the ball well, understands how and when to go over on two, and does best around players who are just as active athletically as she. I see her future as part of a 6-2, and her training at Academy has really brought out the best in her. She's under the radar for being at a school not known for their volleyball, so her coming out party has really shown during her club season. Keep an eye on this one if you're looking for part of a solid 6-2 at the next level.

With soft hands and solid situational awareness, Audrina is running a 5-1 at Monon Select, a regional arm of the Academy here in central Indiana. This under-the-radar club has produced its fair share of athletes over the years, and Miss Rager is yet another at the setting position that uses her smarts AND her volleyball IQ to be the direct reason her squad scores points.

Quick and athletic, Miss Bedoy is already accustomed to running a faster-than-average offense, making her college recruiting journey that much easier. She receives the ball with high, athletic hands, locates the ball in tempo well and can get to any tight pass the bigger setters can. I also like how her footwork is well-trained, so much so that her getting to every ball looks second-nature. In other words, she plays at a much more mature level than some of the other setters in this class, and I have her ranked a bit too low.

Solid hands and athletic enough to attack as a three-rotation right side, Karigan is a hybrid setter that has under-the-radar written all over her. More setter than attacker, Karigan has athleticism to get to every ball well, and the hands to make sure each and every set is hittable. As an attacker, she knows how to hit smart shots and minimizes errors in doing so.
