Hoosiers At GJNCs: 15 Open Preview

With 50+ Indiana-based teams qualified for GJNCs in Indy this summer, it behooves us to feature the top players for each and every team that has qualified. Here are six players from two open-qualified teams that look to turn recruiter's heads this summer.    Explosive and terminal, Karis is a “young” sophomore (Junior-to-be) that has taken over matches regularly this season for Boilers' 15-1 squad. Constantly and consistently active with her feet, her approach vector is mature, moreso than a lot of outsides in her class. Athletically, she goes from passing to attacking quickly, and can get up at a moment's notice. I like her compact and athletic stature, and she fits right in with what the Boiler Juniors' ideal outside hitter looks like.     As an undersized M2, most of what Marin is capable of involves court vision, smart athleticism and a high volleyball IQ. No, she's not going to knock your socks off with bouncing a zero-tempo ball. What she IS going to do, though, is score points when needed, slow balls down on the attack, and play with a relentless motor that just isn't seen much in her graduating class from the middle.     One of the more college-ready freshmen on this roster, Reese is the complete package of six-rotation outside that Boiler Juniors have a knack for training. She can pass in serve receive, transition to the pin and put a ball away at any angle no matter what the setter or the defense gives her. The smooth quickness with which Miss Canada works is tough to replicate, and her maturity in playing the game leads me to believe that she's been doing this for quite some time. This is a rising star in the class of ‘29 to keep an eye on in the near future.     One of the best, if not THE best, setters in this class, Honor has a smooth maturity about her that oozes control of an offense. She's in quiet command of one of the best teams in Indiana, and does it regardless of where the ball is passed or what situation offensively her team is in. Every bit of success with this squad starts and ends with Miss Durham, and this author would not be surprised if she were the first setter off of the recruiting “big board” in the summer of ‘27.     Long, lean and active, Ainsley is a 6' stud of a middle in this class that can easily take over a match if you let her. Defense is not a problem for this young lady, as she uses her long arms and long strides to defend from pin to pin with athletic ease. On offense, her attack is high and hard, and can be either an M1 or an M2 at the next level. Ainsley has risen the ranks slowly this spring to the point of high-end notice, and should be a primary middle to watch at GJNC's and beyond.     A hybrid pin attacker, Alli has the strength, size and volleyball IQ combination to be a force at the Division I level when she graduates. She can do a bit of everything, and do it well on the court. Attacks of her are high and with purpose—-heavy when needed and placed for a quick point when necessary. Her size emphasizes how important it is to be big and good this early in her recruitment, as her block is tough to replicate for those pin attackers in this class that are smaller.
