Southern Kentucky Elite Volleyball Academy East 15s Season Review

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Southern Kentucky Elite Academy East (SKEVA East) 15s team put together a solid season with a sound 20-4 mark. The team won two tournaments then finished third in two others under the direction of head coach Lauren Petrey.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Corbin freshman [player_tooltip player_id='897255' first='Tatum' last='Strain'] leads things at libero with Corbin freshman Aubree Sasser playing defensive specialist and right side hitter. Corbin eighth grader [player_tooltip player_id='890925' first='Harper' last='Newcomb'] started at setter in the fall for the Redhounds and continued her steady play for this team. Newcomb set up two other Corbin eighth grade eighth graders in Lynnlee Pietrowski and Madelyn Ooten.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jackson County sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='988488' first='Hadassah' last='Newman'] played nice defense and gave the team an option on the outside. Strain displays incredible focus. She uses her range and athleticism to cover the net then get back on defense quickly. Strain reacts quickly on crosses and other well-struck balls. Strain has shown she can dig up solid hitters. Strain has her feet consistently aimed at the targets on first contacts. Strain sends across sound overhead and bump passes. Newcomb involved a number of hitters trying to aim to hitters that have favorable matchups. Newcomb sends across deceptive setter dumps various holes on the other side of the net open up. Newcomb does not lock her arms setting the ball allowing her to control it better. Newcomb can also hop up to give better angles to taller teammates. Newcomb delivers quality first touches on defense. Newman has a high attack point and mixes in off shots from the middle. Newman is also valuable on defense with her hustle and crisp passes.
