Newcomb puts a lot of sets on target. She does the back set. Newcomb has developed a powerful lefthanded spinning serve that throws off opponents. She needs to work on not leaning as much on the back sets so as not to tip off opposing blockers where balls are going. However, Newcomb does a good job listening to teammates. Newcomb said she tries to get in a good setting position and figure out where hitters want balls so they can put balls down.

Newcomb has stepped into the important role in a big way for the Redhounds this fall. Newcomb has quickly learned the older hitters on the team and consistently puts balls in their power zones. Newcomb also makes good first touches and solid serves. The sky is the limit for Newcomb with her work ethic.
