Ten Late-Season Surprise Stars on Nebraska 2029 Watch List

Nebraska's freshmen are developing at an extraordinary pace.   We're not far removed from our last <a href="https://prepdig.com/nebraska/rankings/nebraska-high-school-volleyball-2029-class-player-rankings/" id="https://prepdig.com/nebraska/rankings/nebraska-high-school-volleyball-2029-class-player-rankings/">Nebraska 2029 watch list</a> update. Despite not having a ranked hierarchy for this group, we still have a list of names that have made early, repeated impressions over the last several months. However, this year's late-season gauntlet has reshaped our perspective even more.   Club seasons rarely follow a linear, predictable path. Rather, teams and players are constantly evolving and improving while logging high-quality tournament reps. This is especially true on the 15s scene, where most of the 2029s reside this year. Late-season surges are part of the cycle.   So, we're finding more of Nebraska's sophomores-to-be heading into the summer with unmatched momentum.    Our 15s spotlight starts with the age group's outright champion from the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament. Spath has been part of an explosive Premier Nebraska 15 Black front row with plenty of moving parts. The Gretna native tees off at her native position on the right side, but she's also a capable outside attacker when the rotation demands it. 15 Black was a strong contender during the qualifier gauntlet, so we have high hopes for Spath's crew heading into GJNC.     Banzai VBC 15 Select has given us flashes of what's to come for this Omaha-area club. Cockle is part of a long, imposing 15 Select frontcourt and can adapt to whatever lineup the team deploys. She adjusts to various tempos and locations, turning Cockle into a setter's best friend in first-ball scenarios. Her influence at Platteview High School will be fascinating to follow.     Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised by Collingsworth's emergence after she lit up last winter's Prep Dig Exposure Tour at Nebraska Elite. This frontcourt weapon looked incredibly comfortable in her home gym, but Collingsworth has taken her show on the road in 2026. She exhibited her familiar dual-position role as Nebraska Elite 15 Apex tackled the Salt Lake City Showdown to close out April. Collingsworth is equally adept in front of the setter and behind, allowing Nebraska Elite to vary its first-ball routes in three-hitter rotations. It's a perfect array of skills for a Year 2 surge at Elkhorn High.     It's hard not to include VCNebraska 15 Elite's top performers in any Class of 2029 discourse. The team's 15 USA title at the Show Me Qualifier has thrust players like Stokes into our coverage lens during this pre-Nationals period. Stokes was a "wildcard" contributor with Lincoln Southeast last fall, but she has embraced a full-time setter niche with 15 Elite this spring. Her finesse and control, especially when rotating into the VCN lineup, have completely overhauled our scouting report on this LSE freshman.     Nebraska Juniors has seen its share of talented, around-the-dial signal-callers. Cruce fits that mold for 15 Black and has added some attacking range to her repertoire, too. Whether she's guiding the offense or flying high on the right pin, Cruce has set the standard during Nebraska Juniors' late-season slate. This Lincoln Lutheran freshman embodies a bright future for volleyball across the Star City.     Omaha Westview's future stars have raised the ceiling for Club Legacy 15 Alpha. O'Neil is the ideal athlete to anchor a 5-1 offense, as she boasts the length and explosiveness to stand strong at the net. Of course, this outstanding setter also has ironclad connections with her attackers that upgrade 15 Alpha's hard-hitting offense. We were treated to another display of O'Neil's leadership at the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament, and we'll get more this fall.     Nebraska ONE's most successful teams know how to leverage their backcourt stars. Zoucha has taken that mantle to help 15 Black's late charge, highlighted by a Gold breakthrough at the Show Me Qualifier. This agile defender adapts to any zone along the end line and has grown more prevalent as a secondary setter. Zoucha joins a young cast of Lincoln Standing Bear gems, hoping to expand the depth of talent for LPS schools.     We have many more River City Jrs 15 Red athletes to plug into our freshman database. Bash is one of the existing names from this stacked group after she tallied over two kills per set in her debut season with Omaha Mercy. We highlighted Bash's all-around termination during 15 Red's Gold bracket rise at last month's Show Me Qualifier. The team leaned on Bash's pin prowess in first-ball situations to become one of Nebraska's many 15 Liberty frontrunners at the event. Expect a few more River City additions for our next 2029 watch list.     We knew South Central NE 15 Black would have plenty of frontcourt firepower for the 2026 campaign, but Marsh has elevated the team's surprising ball control staff. The Thayer Central freshman can run the South Central offense or make a difference as a right-back defender. Either way, 15 Black's improvements in on-court command were pivotal in securing a GJNC bid through the Great Plains Region.     Our brief small-town swing ends in Kearney. Recent features have alluded to Antelope Volleyball Club's reliance on central Nebraska's multi-sport gems, and Vrbka adds to that representation. The track and volleyball athlete brings tremendous ball control impact to AVC's 15 Blue lineup. Vrbka's lockdown defense and smooth hands lifted 15 Blue to a winning record in Show Me's 15 Liberty race. The run continued at the GPR Bid Tournament, putting Vrbka on an upward trajectory before the fall.
