What is the role of an Opposite or Right Side Hitter? It's one of the most overlooked positions in volleyball. Some players will tell you it's not their favorite position. You can go stretches without getting set, and at times it feels like you're on your own island. But to college coaches, it's one of the biggest jobs on the court.

Think about a hitter like Harper Murray on the outside. Who is responsible for lining up against her? Who has to establish the block, get a touch, and slow down her attack? That's where the opposite comes in.

They may not always lead the team in kills, but they're asked to do a lot. They have to block elite hitters, take away angles, and stay disciplined at the net. Defensively, they also have to read the game, communicate with their teammates, and be ready to cover tips and off-speed shots and keep rallies alive. Then, when their number is finally called offensively, they're expected to score.

It's not always the position that gets the most attention, but it's often one of the most important. The best opposites influence the match in ways that don't always show up in the box score.

[player_tooltip player_id='748339' first='Dori' last='Granlund'] is a player all college coaches should be contacting. Dori is an opposite who forces opponents to adjust their game plan. She is aggressive at the net and understands how to score from the right side against disciplined defenses. Her blocking is top-notch. She does an excellent job of pressing over the net, sealing seams, and shutting down opposing pin hitters. Dori plays with tremendous confidence and doesn't rely solely on power. She finds open space, adjusts mid-rally, and when she puts the ball away, the crowd goes nuts. Her transition game, combined with her ability to impact both sides of the ball, makes her one of the most complete right-side prospects in the class. June 15th should only amplify what many already know: Dori is ready for college coaches' calls.~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='743073' first='Lucy' last='Crace'] is an exciting player who brings steady confidence to the opposite position, which coaches love to see. Lucy transitions efficiently off the block and consistently makes herself available as an option when rallies extend. She attacks with purpose and understands how to score in a variety of ways. What stands out is how well she has been trained to use the block to her advantage, finding points off defenders' hands rather than forcing swings that aren't there. Lucy is just as much of a threat defensively. She understands that one of the biggest responsibilities of an opposite is establishing the block against opposing outside hitters, and she does an excellent job of pressing over the net and sealing off attacking angles. Her all-around understanding of the position should firmly place her on college coaches' radar.~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='747088' first='Norah' last='Allerdings'] embraces the responsibilities that come with the opposite position. What stands out most about Norah is that she competes with an edge, and it's hard not to notice. She can score both in-system and out-of-system, making her a reliable offensive option in a variety of situations. Norah has a high volleyball IQ when it comes to using the block and mixing up her shot selection, making her difficult for defenses to defend against. When Norah is at the net, she does an excellent job of taking away attacking angles and creating challenges for opposing hitters. Her willingness to embrace the physical side of the game is difficult to ignore.~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='932630' first='Alexis' last='Petoske'] is a player who brings versatility to the opposite position. Alexis has a strong understanding of how to read the court and make decisions that benefit her team. She is one of the stronger attackers at finding seams in the block and exposing weaknesses in the defense. Even when the pressure is on, Alexis looks comfortable doing her job. As she transitions off the net into her approach, she remains constantly engaged and ready to impact the rally. Her composure and understanding of the game make her an intriguing prospect for coaches looking for a dependable pin. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='833222' first='Jersie' last='Hostetler'] is a competitor! When Jersie is at the net, she embraces every moment with confidence. She attacks aggressively from the opposite position and does an excellent job of mixing tempos and shot selections to keep defenses guessing. Jersie is a workhorse who isn't afraid of the hard work and challenges that come with the position. She is one of the best blockers I have seen, consistently making life difficult for opposing attackers. Her energy and competitive drive elevate those around her, and she continues to develop into a well-rounded right-side option. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='742500' first='Chloe' last='Enevold'] knows that to be successful at the opposite position, you have to be consistent and pay attention to the little things on both sides of the court. Chloe makes sure she stays available in transition and remains disciplined in her blocking assignments. She already has such a strong read on the game that she consistently makes smart decisions with the ball. As her confidence continues to grow, so does her potential to become a reliable and impactful option at the next level. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas
