M1 Elite Scrimmage: Pin Hitters Who Made Me Look Twice

It wasn't about getting highlights or medals this weekend. It was being pushed one more time before they headed out to USAV, AAU, or Phoenix Championship. These outside hitters kept standing out at M1 and did the little things that will make them successful. They took ownership of first contact, stayed disciplined in serve receive, transitioned with purpose, and remained the go-to attackers even when the offense drifted out of system. You stop, and you know this is going to be a good one. McKenna is a go-to player when her team needs that point to change the game, making her one of the most dependable players on the court for AVB. McKenna had a strong, fast arm swing this past weekend, which kept the defense from getting a block on her. Lydia was consistently attacking at a high point of contact, allowing her to score over blocks with ease. She repeatedly showed she could go against a big block; she had no problem using it to her advantage. She stepped in for serve-receive and transitioned right into her approach with ease. Evalyn was always calm in her game. She was taking strong swings and was producing on every attempt. She was shutting down the line on the block. Gabby brought an edge to her game, and it showed every time. Gabby would take high-pressure swings when the game was close. She had the confidence in her swing and in herself. When the game would speed up, Gabby never looked rushed in her play. She stayed focused, read the court, and made the adjustment. Lea would stay grounded and defend, transition, and attack in a quick, fluid motion. Lea didn't need to force swings that weren't there and has the IQ to make that shift and find the openings.
