MN 2028 Rankings Update: The Next Wave of Setters Arrive

A few of them have really stood out this season and started to make a name for themselves with strong play and steady growth. Here are just some of the setters who have caught the attention of scouts so far. Every time, she stands out as fearless, aggressive, and just a straight up natural competitor. What really jumps out when she's setting is her awareness as she clearly sees the whole court. She does a great job putting her hitters in positions to score, but she's also constantly reading the defense. When teams give her an opening, she's not afraid to take it herself with a quick setter dump or push to the open court. She is hard working setter that isn't afraid to go the extra mile.     I've watched Stellmaker's game take off over the past year, and it's no surprise she's climbed to become Minnesota's top ranked setter. Playing for Northern Lights has given her the opportunity to train and compete at the highest level, but she's been proving herself on big stages for years as the starting setter at Rochester Century in Class AAA. Stellmaker has developed a great game IQ over the years and makes the players around her better. It will be exciting to see where she decides to make an early college commitment.     Every time I've watched Walen play during club qualifiers this season, she's left an impression. She competes with confidence, isn't afraid in big moments, and does a great job mixing up and running the offense. She's constantly talking, keeping her hitters engaged, and making sure everyone is on the same page. You can tell she's in command when she's on the court, and her teammates trust her to make the right decisions. Combine that with the high level training and tough competition she faces throughout the club season, and it's easy to see why she is one of the top setters in her class.     I saw Duppong a couple times this season, and she's just a really fun player to watch. She's smart, crafty, and provides excellent leadership to her team when she's running the offense. She keeps things moving at a quick tempo and does a great job isolating her attackers so they are put in optimal situations to score. Duppong is also a strong attacker herself. She has a strong vertical, has a quick arm, and competes hard on every play. She is simply a player who can impact the game in a lot of different ways.     Barnett is a really versatile athlete who plays a unique role, splitting time between middle and setter. She usually start in the middle, but once she rotates to the back row, she steps into the setter role and runs the offense with confidence. That kind of versatility really shows in her athleticism, volleyball IQ, and court awareness. She reads the court well and adjusts naturally depending on what her team needs. She's one of those players who just finds ways to impact the game every time she is on the court. It will be interesting to see where she goes from here.     Buchar is a clean, technical setter who runs a quick tempo offense. She does a nice job spreading the ball around and still finding her hitters even when the pass isn't perfect or she is pushed off the net. She's also comfortable reversing the play to keep defenses guessing and get her hitters different looks. What stands out most is how much Buchar understands the game. She's a true student of volleyball as she reads situations well, makes smart decisions, and rarely seems rattled. Overall, she's become an impressive setter who makes her team better when she's running the show.
