She read the setter well and closed space quickly, sealing seams and pressing over the tape with purpose. Her ability to take away angles forced hitters to adjust and disrupted offensive rhythm consistently.

Barnett is a rare, but versatile combo of a middle hitter and setter. She has great hands and sets with ease and fluidity, showing a high volleyball IQ and an elevated understanding of the game. She consistently reads the opposing side of the court well, allowing her to make smart decisions on who to set and when, and put her hitters in the best position to be successful. Being a setter also comes in handy when in the front row playing middle as she can easily step in and “set” ill placed passes with ease to her pins, keeping her team in rhythm. No matter where Barnett is at on the court, she is going to highly impactful.

Peyton is quickly emerging as one of Pine Island’s most complete players and one of the most exciting young all-around talents in the state. She can impact the game from anywhere on the court. At the net, Peyton takes big, confident swings and connects smoothly with her pins, while her natural leadership keeps the team composed in tight moments. What truly sets her apart is her back-row presence. Her setting experience allows her to deliver perfect out-of-system balls and keep plays alive with precision. With her versatility, poise, and growing confidence, Peyton is poised for a standout career at Pine Island.

Barnett is well on her way to a long volleyball career. Playing on varsity since 8th grade and playing up an age level in club this year, she is competing in high level competition that is only going to make her better and better. Barnett is one of those athletes that clearly loves the game. She is a setter in the backrow and middle in the front row…not only a unique combination and skill set, but an exhausting one as well. If Barnet continues down the path she is headed, I see many colleges taking notice.

Peyton had to be one of the most unique setters I saw play at the Madness in Miltown tournament. She dominated as a setter in the back row, and as soon as she rotated into the front row, she played offense as a middle. The fact that she could take on (arguably) two of the toughest positions in the sport and play them both consistently shows just how much grit and athleticism she has.

Barnett is not a newbie to tough competition. As an 8th grader and again as a freshman, Barnett saw considerable playing time on varsity as a setter. This past high school season, Barnett ran the offense for Pine Island deep into the Class AA playoffs. Instead of playing on Southern Minnesota Volleyball ‘s 15-1 team, she will be leading the offense for the their 16-1s.
