Nevada Liberos Reflect on Triple Crown and What's Next

The Triple Crown West Coast Invitational, held June 6–8, marked the end of the club season for many Nevada liberos and defensive specialists. With Nationals still ahead for some and the season coming to a close for others, PrepDig Nevada caught up with several backcourt standouts to reflect on their tournament experience. The athletes shared their thoughts on competing at one of the West Coast's premier events, what they learned throughout the season, and the areas they plan to focus on as they prepare for the next chapter of their development.    Stella proved to be a steady presence in the backcourt throughout the season and tournament, bringing energy, determination, and a competitive mindset every time she stepped on the court. When matches became challenging during the tournament, Smith stayed motivated by reminding herself that each point could be one of her final opportunities of the season.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> The thought that this is my last tournament of the season kept me going, she said. </blockquote>   That mentality helped her continue battling through difficult moments while supporting her teammates on the defensive end. Looking ahead, Smith is focused on elevating her game by improving her ability to read hitters, becoming a more consistent server, and developing a stronger topspin serve. With her work ethic and commitment to improvement, she is a young libero to keep an eye on as she continues to grow.     Kennedi embraced the competitive atmosphere throughout the tournament, helping her team battle through tough matches with relentless effort and energy. Her favorite match came during the first game on day one, a tightly contested battle that featured long rallies, aggressive play at the net, and impressive defensive efforts on both sides.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> None of my team was letting anything touch the floor, our energy was also great, making it a super fun game, Lytle said. </blockquote>   When adversity struck, she leaned on her teammates for motivation, determined to make the most of the final tournament of the season and showcase the work the group had put in over the past several months. Looking ahead, Lytle is focused on strengthening her serve receive, aiming to become an even more dependable and consistent presence for her teammates and coaches. Her competitive spirit and commitment to improvement continue to make her a valuable contributor on the court.     Charlotte showcased her passion for the game and appreciation for the little moments that often make the biggest impact. While it was difficult for her to single out one specific rally or match from the weekend, Huber pointed to first-ball side-outs ending in kills as some of her favorite plays to watch unfold. When matches became challenging, she stayed motivated by focusing on her love for the sport and her commitment to her teammates.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I remind myself to fight for the sport I am most passionate about and to fight to win for not only myself, but my team as well, Huber said. </blockquote>   Looking ahead to next season, she is focused on developing into an even stronger defensive specialist. Although she enjoys attacking, Huber recognizes that her strengths are in the backcourt and is committed to expanding her defensive skill set. With her self-awareness, determination, and team-first mindset, she is positioning herself to make an even greater impact as a defender moving forward.     Lindiwe embraced the competitive battles throughout the weekend, thriving in the intense rallies that kept both teams fighting for every point. Some of her favorite moments came during the long exchanges where neither side was willing to let the ball hit the floor. Romero pointed to the second day of Triple Crown as a particularly challenging experience, but one that helped create lasting memories and valuable lessons. When matches became difficult, she stayed focused on making the most of the season's final tournament.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> Since it was the last tournament, I wanted to end off with wins and great memories with my team, Romero said. </blockquote>   As she prepares for the next season, Romero is focused on becoming more reactive and increasing her awareness of the court, skills that will help her anticipate plays and make an even greater impact for her team moving forward.     Playing up two age divisions, Amaya demonstrated poise, court awareness, and leadership throughout the weekend against older competition. Her favorite play of the tournament came during a match against MPV 15 National Green when she perfectly read an opposing middle attack. After recognizing the hitter's hand position on a tip toward the short left court, Molino reacted quickly and delivered a key defensive save. When matches became difficult, she focused on keeping her teammates connected and reminding them that success comes from working together through adversity.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> Mistakes are the things we make to motivate us to keep going forward and find ways to improve, Molino said. </blockquote>   The opportunity to compete in the final tournament of the season also fueled her determination to showcase the team's growth and chemistry. Looking ahead, Molino is committed to becoming more consistent in every phase of her game, including serve receive, passing, and defense, while continuing to develop as a leader. Her goal is to make life easier for her setters and hitters through dependable first-contact play, strong communication, and a calm presence in pressure situations.     Caroline capped off her season by competing in one of the most memorable matches of the weekend, a hard-fought battle against GSL 15s that showcased her team's determination and growth. Although the match ended in a narrow three-set loss, Campbell was proud of the way her team competed against a talented and intelligent opponent.   We really worked as a team to get to that point, she said.   When adversity struck during matches, Campbell stayed motivated by remembering that it was the final tournament of the season and an opportunity to put everything the team had learned into action. She emphasized the importance of trusting one another, staying composed, and working together through difficult moments. Looking ahead, Campbell is focused on improving her serve receive while also dedicating significant attention to the mental side of the game.
