Before the First Serve: 6 Players Ready to Shape the 2026 Season

The 2026 Georgia high-school volleyball season begins August 3, but the players expected to define it have been building toward this moment throughout club season, national competition and years of varsity development.   Some will enter the fall carrying championship expectations. Others will take on larger leadership roles, become the center of their team's offense or face opponents specifically preparing to slow them down.   Prep Dig's current rankings place [player_tooltip player_id='370170' first='Marissa' last='Jones'], [player_tooltip player_id='803468' first='Gabriella' last='Isakson'], [player_tooltip player_id='573519' first='Jade' last='Howard'], [player_tooltip player_id='823528' first='Destinee' last='Chukelu'] and [player_tooltip player_id='511379' first='Kylee' last='Evans'] at the top of Georgia's 2027 class. [player_tooltip player_id='771688' first='Vivienne' last='Ucheya'] leads the 2028 rankings, making her one of the younger athletes already positioned to influence the statewide conversation.   These six athletes will not all affect matches in the same way. One may control tempo. Another may dominate the net. A six-rotation outside may take over through ball control before she ever records a kill.   What connects them is the responsibility waiting for them this fall.    Vivienne is the youngest athlete in this group, but she is not entering the season as an unknown. The Alpharetta outside hitter currently holds the top position in Georgia's 2028 rankings and has already gained experience competing against older varsity and high-level club athletes.   Her season will be important because it offers another opportunity to show that her ranking is supported by complete, repeatable play. For Vivienne, that means staying aggressive without becoming predictable, maintaining balance through serve receive and continuing to contribute when she is not the primary attacking option. With two high-school seasons still remaining after this fall, every new responsibility she handles will add another layer to her long-term projection. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Kylee enters the fall with both an established reputation and a clear future at the next level. The 6-foot middle is ranked fifth in Georgia's 2027 class and is committed to Clemson. Her combination of speed, efficiency and offensive confidence gives Union Grove a player capable of producing quickly before opposing blocks are fully established.   Her value is not limited to size or projection. Kylee has shown that she can convert opportunities with impressive efficiency, including a 13-kill performance in which she hit 92.9 percent against Eagle's Landing Christian Academy. The season-long question will be whether she can maintain that effectiveness as opponents increase their attention, serve more aggressively and attempt to remove Union Grove's middle attack from the match. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Destinee gives Blessed Trinity a front-row presence capable of influencing much more than the final attack. She finished the 2025 season with 107 total blocks, the third-highest published total among Georgia's Class 4A players, while also contributing from the service line. That combination allows her to create pressure at the net and initiate it from behind the end line.   Her next challenge will be turning that production into an even more complete senior season. Middles become especially difficult to defend when they transition quickly, remain available on imperfect passes and score through multiple tempos instead of waiting for ideal situations. Destinee enters the season ranked fourth in Georgia's 2027 class, and her continued growth could make her one of the central pieces in Blessed Trinity's postseason ambitions. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Jade changes the geometry of the court. Her length, timing and attacking presence force opposing hitters to reconsider their available windows while giving Hebron Christian a dependable scoring option through the center of the offense. During the 2025 season, she averaged 3.7 kills per set, hit .513 and led the team with 82 total blocks.   Those numbers establish what Jade can already do, but her senior season will be about how completely she can control the net. Opponents will attempt to pull her away from the middle, change tempos and prevent her from establishing an early rhythm. Her ability to track setters, close blocks and remain available in transition could make her one of the state's most disruptive front-row players. Jade is currently ranked third in Georgia's 2027 class. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Gabriella's upcoming season will show what happens when recognition meets expectation. The North Forsyth outside hitter enters the fall ranked second in Georgia's 2027 class after being named the 2025 Forsyth County News Volleyball Player of the Year. She has also developed as a six-rotation pin through high-school and ProLink competition, giving her the opportunity to affect matches through offense, serve receive and back-row defense.   What makes Gabriella especially interesting is the range within her game. She can generate offense from the left pin, but her court awareness and ability to contribute through extended rallies make her more than a terminal attacker. North Forsyth will need her to handle difficult assignments, remain steady through serve receive and produce even when opposing defenses are organized specifically around stopping her. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Marissa does not enter her senior season needing an introduction. She enters with the responsibility of directing a Woodward Academy team coming off a 2025 Class 5A state championship. She delivered 53 assists in the five-set title match against McIntosh and finished the season with 849 assists and 281 digs, demonstrating the production, endurance and composure required to lead an offense deep into the postseason.   At 6-foot-2, Marissa offers more than traditional setting value. She can influence the front row through blocking and attacking while using her length to create difficult matchups. The biggest storyline will be how she handles opponents arriving with an entire offseason of preparation for Woodward's offense. Maintaining tempo, building connections with her hitters and continuing to make composed decisions under pressure could make Marissa one of Georgia's most influential players this fall. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga    The Players Who Will Set the Standard   The athletes who shape a season are not always the ones who finish with the largest numbers.   Sometimes it is the setter who keeps an offense composed during a fifth set. It may be the middle whose presence changes where opponents are willing to attack, or the outside hitter who passes well enough to keep her team's entire system available.   Marissa, Gabriella, Jade, Destinee, Kylee and Vivienne enter the season with different roles, but each will carry expectations that extend beyond individual production. Their teams will need leadership, stability and the ability to perform after opponents begin building game plans around them.   The first serve will reveal where each journey begins.   The matches that follow will show which players are prepared to shape everything that comes next.
