Some of the top performances at the Stockup Showcase didn't even make the stat sheet. They were made by players diving for a ball, chasing down an impossible save, or hitting the pass that kept a rally going. Defense isn't always glamorous, but it can completely alter the course of a game.

This group assumed that role. They played defense. They passed. They didn't panic in serve receive. They figured out ways to keep their teams in sync when points looked lost. Their effort, their toughness, and their fight for every ball didn't go unnoticed. These are the defensive players who caught our attention and proved to everyone that some of the biggest difference makers on the court are the ones doing the work behind the attack.

[player_tooltip player_id='946431' first='Corrine' last='Wenck'] looked to be all over the court. She covered a ton of ground in the back row and always gave her team a second opportunity by converting tough attacks into playable balls. The striking thing was her ability to stay calm at the faster rallies and make clean defensive plays instead of forcing them. If this performance is any indication, [player_tooltip player_id='946431' first='Corrine' last='Wenck'] is the kind of defender who can provide stability to the back row all season long for the high school team. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='961054' first='Lily' last='Steffen'] gave one of those performances that every coach loves to see. She was consistent in serve receive, didn't back down from tough assignments, and made the kind of controlled digs that kept her team in system. Her court awareness and the desire to go after balls outside her zone created extra possessions all day long. Look for [player_tooltip player_id='961054' first='Lily' last='Steffen'] to be a player who gives her team confidence every time the ball heads to the back row this season. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='961144' first='Lily' last='Zoucha'] played with the kind of grit that keeps rallies going. She could read hitters, put herself in a strong defensive position, and make plays that frustrated opposing attackers. It wasn't just about making digs; it was about making quality digs that gave her setters options in transition. As the high school season kicks off, Zoucha has the tools to be a reliable presence on the defensive side of the ball. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Every time [player_tooltip player_id='924536' first='Tresdyn' last='Stephens'] stepped on the floor, she was energized. She was in it from start to finish, whether it was setting up for a ball, extending a rally, or taking away a hitter's best swing. You could see her defensive instincts and relentless effort. She never looked out of a play. That's the kind of thing that can change momentum in a game, making [player_tooltip player_id='924536' first='Tresdyn' last='Stephens'] a defender to watch this fall. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='1006963' first='Sayler' last='Buglewicz'] showed how defense can change a match. She looked comfortable in serve receive, stayed disciplined in the back row, and consistently put herself in position to make plays. Her game-reading and fast-reacting skills helped keep rallies going, and her confidence on first contact allowed her team to stay aggressive. [player_tooltip player_id='1006963' first='Sayler' last='Buglewicz'] looks ready to be a player opponents will have to account for whenever the ball is going to the back row as the high school season approaches. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas
