Jocelyn Nading was selected as the Avoli Committed Athlete for the SoCal Sophomore ID Camp in Irvine, California.
The first thing you notice about Jocelyn is her smile. Off the court she is warm, easy to talk to, the kind of kid you remember after one conversation. Flip her onto the court and she becomes a completely different competitor, and that contrast is exactly what makes her worth watching.
Her hands give her away first. Jocelyn sets a high, hittable ball with location that lets her attackers swing without hesitation, the kind of set that makes hitters trust the target before it even leaves her hands. Defensively, she moves with the same ease, covering ground without ever looking rushed, and her focus never dipped from the first point of the day to the last.
But the setting and the defense are not what earned her this award. It was what she did between plays.
Jocelyn talked constantly, and not the kind of talk that fades after a few reps. She stayed on her teammates through the whole event, hyping a good swing, talking through the next play, staying locked in on communication when energy in the gym naturally starts to drop. She was never chasing credit for herself. Every point felt like it belonged to the group, and she treated it that way. That showed up again in how she carried herself as a leader, checking in with her own teammates about what she could adjust to make the group better, not waiting to be told. That instinct, to look inward before looking for feedback, is the kind of habit college coaches notice long before they notice a stat line.
After the award was announced, Jocelyn reflected on what it meant to her.
I'm very grateful. I always love coming to these PrepDig showcases so much, and I just put in so much work, so to see it come out like this is so amazing. I just love the vibes and energy today, and my team was so fun to play with. I'm just really lucky to be in this place where I am now.
When asked what advice she would give another player, her answer was simple.
I would just say play with confidence and play with passion. Honestly, getting to where I am now came from passion and confidence. I've had so much trust in myself for the past few years, even when there were doubts surrounding it. Playing with confidence is so important.
That trust is exactly what showed up at the showcase. Jocelyn Nading is a setter who elevates her hitters, a competitor who never loses her composure, and a teammate who makes the players around her want to compete harder. She leads with her voice as much as her hands, and that combination is something that coaches should take notice now.
