Expert Analysis
Michelle Bamford | Prep Dig Scout
Jocelyn Nading wants to impact the game above the net.
The Pipeline setter has spent much of the year focused on becoming more physical, more aggressive, and more capable of creating offensive pressure herself.
The physicality I bring to the table has really shifted the trajectory of my season.
That growth has shown up in several ways. She wants to be bigger at the net. She wants to attack more aggressively. She wants to run a faster offense that creates cleaner opportunities for hitters and forces blockers to make difficult choices.
What makes those goals interesting is how she balances aggression with trust.
When matches get uncomfortable, Jocelyn doesn’t become cautious.
I love being depended on.
She trusts her training and welcomes the responsibility that comes with making decisions for her team.
Throughout her responses, Coach Uche’s influence surfaced repeatedly. Jocelyn credits him for helping her become more disciplined with her blocking footwork while reinforcing the importance of defense regardless of position.
As she looks ahead, she is excited to continue competing with new athletes, building connections with unfamiliar hitters, and expanding the range of offensive situations she can successfully manage.

, she tends to run toward them.
While many setters focus primarily on ball delivery and offensive organization, Jocelyn’s responses repeatedly returned to physicality, aggressiveness, and the willingness to put herself in challenging situations.
That mindset surfaced during a defensive demonstration led by SMU’s Coach Carissa. When volunteers were needed, Jocelyn immediately stepped forward. Not because she had to. Because she wanted to.
The moment reflected the same confidence that showed up throughout her camp experience. Whether it was being aggressive at the net, trusting her tempo, or applying coaching feedback, she consistently embraced opportunities to compete.
That willingness to step forward is often one of the qualities that separates athletes as recruiting opportunities begin to increase.

‘s growth is showing up in tempo control and hand quickness. She has intentionally sped up her release and is delivering faster sets with improved rhythm, allowing hitters to operate in tighter windows. The adjustment is technical, but also mental. She is committing to a faster offensive pace and trusting her decision-making within it.
She consistently prioritizes defense as a setter, reinforcing her understanding that there is no offense without first contact. She speaks about discipline in serve receive and reaction time, and that accountability reflects positional maturity. A setter who values defensive responsibility early tends to develop into a more complete decision-maker.
Her current training focus remains defensive reliability. She is working on reaction speed and becoming a dependable passer so that she can stabilize the rally before ever touching second contact. The language around discipline and reliability suggests long-term thinking rather than highlight chasing.
When asked what she wants coaches to understand beyond the stat sheet, she answered:
I crave pressure. High pressure situations are where I thrive, and one of the main reasons I love volleyball is the mental aspect of the game. I love being challenged and being someone my teammates can rely on whether I’m on or off the court.
That quote points directly to competitive processing. Craving pressure is different than tolerating it. She frames her identity around mental challenge and trust, which are indicators of growth capacity at the control position.
Off the court, Jocelyn balances honors coursework and dual enrollment while pursuing her associate degree before high school graduation. She has set a goal to read 100 books this year, reflecting intellectual discipline and long-term planning. The habits she describes academically mirror her intentionality in volleyball.

: Social Media Star of the Week
💡 Game You’re Proud Of
I am very proud of my setting decisions and energy on the court. When choosing who to set, I always pay attention to where the blockers are positioned. My goal is always to isolate my hitters and to put them in the best situations possible. Energy is also very important to me. I always aim to uplift my teammates no matter the circumstances, and I love celebrating their successes. I focus on uplifting my teammates while leading them at the same time.
📲 Why This Post Mattered
Visibility on social media has been such a blessing. Through social media, I have been able to connect with so many other athletes who have become some of my best friends. On the University Athlete website, I also found that I received some evaluations from D1 college recruiters through online views. Overall, I enjoy posting on social media, and it has brought me so many blessings. I also connected to the VKTRY Insoles brand through Instagram, and I’m so grateful to work with them.
🧠 What Coaches Should Know
I want college coaches to know how competitive I am on and off the court. When I don’t have practice, I always schedule extra training and workout days. In the classroom, I take honors classes, online college classes, and I use time management skills to uphold my 4.33 GPA. I am also working towards earning my associate degree before graduating high school. In my free time, I read a lot. I aim to read at least one book a day.
