There is a lot of talent across Minnesota, and one of the best parts of covering these tournaments is discovering new players and watching familiar ones continue to develop. So, before I turn the page and head over to the Up Next tournament tomorrow, here are a few final shout outs and tournament gems who deserve to be on our radar.

Singleton is a solid libero/defensive specialist who really shines on defense. She reads the game well, moves quickly, and covers a lot of ground. I also liked her ability to anticipate tips and dumps which allowed her to get into position and make plays that other defenders might not get to. She has good court awareness and is the type of defender who will always make a difference in the backrow.

The first note I wrote on Lane was that she has a “wicked swing.” I watched her a couple of times during the club season and she has really grown since then. Lane does a great job seeing the block in front of her and finding ways around it when she needs to. She has the gift for finding ways to score and when she gets the opportunity, she can absolutely put down a hard shot.

I have to give a shoutout to Penn. I have seen her play a few times this year and she has impressed me every time. She has a big swing and since she was playing up a year against some very competitive teams got some big time exposure. At the showcase though, it wasn't just her swing that caught my attention. I primarily saw Thompson in the back row at the showcase and saw that she was a solid defender. She moves well, anticipates the ball, and does a nice job getting her platform out early and creating good angles. She was also solid in serve receive and has good float serve. Not only were her skills solid, but she was an effective communicator and leader as well.
