Five Sound Players from Division II, Class A, West Region

This region may not have had anyone make the state semifinals last year, but the region has enjoyed success at the state tournament. The lone school actually located in Mississippi but still a member of the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association in Northpoint Christian located in Southaven won the first state crown in program history in 2024. Another one could come from the region as no team has repeated as state champions in this class since Knoxville Webb's five-peat between 2013 and 2017.    Cox (pictured) is a scoring machine for the Eagles. She makes nice shallow cross shots and has sound approaches, extensions and finishes on her swings. Her court awareness is off the charts. She makes impressive out of system roll shots painting side lines. Cox mixes in good tips to shallow zones on the court. She can take quality out of system swings from the back row if needed.     Johnson does a great job running the offense that blockers are often fooled as to where balls are headed. She has great hands and involves three hitters on a number of occasions. Johnson can put up long, short and even back sets with precision. Johnson does not lock her arms. Johnson puts balls at high attack points if she can to make sure hitters can hit over and around blocks.     Dentley makes good decisions running the offense. She has great hands and precise touches on her sets. She executes back sets with no lean. On defense, Dentley gives for balls under control. Dentley makes the simple passes and gets over on set-over attempts in the middle to keep plays alive. Her ball control still needs some work, but that has come a long way during club season.     Price is a hustler on the court. Price takes quick side steps to close seams and provides nice net backup. Price does a good job squaring her body up to balls to make nice two to three-point passes. Price makes the simple passes and takes quality out of system sets. She goes to her knees when needed and takes minimal steps to balls.     Fly gives the Vikings reliable play in the back row. Fly forms walls around balls and takes minimal steps to them to make the simple passes. She only dives out of necessity to kee plays alive. She also sends across a nice float serve. Fly needs some work on her ball control, but that will come with more reps.
