A kill looks great in a highlight reel.

So does a solo block, an untouched ace or a defensive save that sends half the bench running onto the court.

But the footage that tells evaluators the most usually happens around those moments.

What did the hitter do when the set was off target? Did the right side close the block before transitioning? Could the setter still create offense after chasing down a bad first contact? Did the defender make the spectacular save because of athleticism—or because she read the play before everyone else?

These six Georgia athletes are already producing early in the season, but their developing reels offer something more valuable than statistics alone: clues about the players they are becoming.

Leah has already recorded 137 assists for Denmark, establishing herself as the primary distributor behind an offense featuring one of Georgia's early kill leaders in Azaria Ehima. The connection between those two numbers is important because setter production should never be evaluated in isolation.

The most valuable trait on Leah's film should be her ability to make the offense function. Setters are constantly processing information: where the pass is going, which blockers are committing, which hitter has the favorable matchup and who needs another ball to regain rhythm. The great clips are not always the perfect quick set from a perfect pass. They are often the chase into the bleachers, the controlled location after a difficult first contact or the decision that leaves an attacker with only one blocker. A setter's best intangible is often composure—the ability to organize everyone else while the rally is becoming chaotic. As Denmark continues through the season, Leah's growing film should provide a clearer picture of that command.~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Haven is currently among Georgia's top defensive producers with 128 digs at 4.4 per set, and Lanier has already recognized her as a Player of the Match this season. She also carries experience as a libero, defensive specialist and outside hitter.

That outside-hitter background can be valuable for a defender because it gives Haven another perspective on what attackers are trying to create. Reading shoulders, recognizing approach direction and understanding the shots available around a block are all parts of becoming a more anticipatory defender. Her highlight reel should certainly contain pursuit plays, but the stronger evaluation will come from the controlled contacts: taking away seams, delivering playable balls and creating a sense of order behind the block. Senior defensive players also carry an intangible responsibility to communicate and stabilize younger teammates. The best liberos do not simply touch more balls—they make the entire court feel smaller for the opponent.~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Briana has already shown that she can influence matches in different ways. She recently led Southeast Whitfield with nine kills in a win over Cedartown, and one day earlier produced three aces against Oakwood Christian. MaxPreps lists the sophomore as both an outside hitter and setter.

That versatility gives her film an interesting rhythm. One clip may show her finishing the play while another shows her creating an opportunity or generating pressure from the service line. For a young athlete, learning to shift between responsibilities can accelerate court awareness because she cannot view every rally solely through the eyes of a hitter. The intangible positive is flexibility: being able to help in more than one role gives a coach more ways to keep an athlete involved. As Briana continues developing, the consistency of her ball control and decision-making could become just as important to her evaluation as the attacking numbers.~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Bella may have one of the most interesting positional profiles in this group. She is listed across setter, right side and outside hitter, and she currently leads Cedartown with 73 kills. Last season she also contributed heavily through digs and serving, giving her a résumé that reaches far beyond one attacking position.

Versatility can sometimes become a vague compliment, but Bella's version has practical value. Understanding several positions means understanding the problems those positions are trying to solve. A hitter who has set can better recognize tempo. A setter who has attacked understands what location feels like from the hitter's perspective. A player who remains involved defensively develops a more complete view of the court. Her strongest reel should embrace that versatility instead of trying to force her into one box. Players who can genuinely perform multiple responsibilities give coaches options—and options have value.~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Macey has already reached 98 kills this season, putting her near the top of Georgia's early leaderboard. But she has been building this résumé for much longer than two weeks. She earned All-State recognition as a freshman and again as a sophomore, making her one of the more established young outsides in the state.

That history matters because repeated production often reveals one of the most valuable traits a hitter can possess: consistency under expectation. Macey is no longer surprising opponents. Teams know she can terminate, which means her development becomes about solving increasingly intentional defenses. Her 5-foot-10 frame gives her a strong pin profile, but the clips that should define her reel are the ones showing range—passing before transitioning to attack, finding different scoring windows and continuing to work when an opponent begins loading its defense toward her. The ability to stay productive after becoming a scouting-report priority is a major step in a hitter's development.~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Azaria has opened her senior season as Denmark's primary offensive threat, leading the team with 81 kills at 4.8 per set while also producing 13 blocks. She enters the year after recording 318 kills and 48 blocks as a junior, and MaxPreps lists her as one of Denmark's captains.

The captaincy may be just as meaningful as the kill total. Right sides live in demanding matchups: they are often responsible for slowing the opponent's best outside hitter and then immediately transitioning into offense. Azaria's production suggests she is comfortable carrying that responsibility. What makes her film compelling is the opportunity to see both sides of that identity—physical attacking when the matchup is available, disciplined blocking when it is not, and the confidence to keep taking big swings when the defense knows exactly where the ball is headed. Senior leaders are often asked to be predictable in responsibility but unpredictable in execution, and Azaria has the tools to do both.~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Azaria, Macey, Bella, Briana, Haven and Leah already have numbers that make you stop scrolling.

What makes them more interesting is what those numbers represent.

Responsibility. Versatility. Repetition. Leadership. Adaptability. The willingness to stay involved in parts of the game that may never become the thumbnail on a highlight video.

The best recruiting reel eventually stops feeling like a collection of isolated great plays.

You begin seeing patterns.

And when those patterns consistently show an athlete solving problems, helping teammates and influencing multiple parts of the game, the film starts telling evaluators something much more important than a stat line ever could.

Subscribe to Prep Dig+ for continued Georgia high-school coverage, expanded evaluations, rankings and recruiting insight as we follow the athletes building complete games—and the film to prove it.

Note to GA Athletes:

If you'd like to be considered for future coverage, please send me your high school season schedule and share a little bit about yourself so I can come support you and share your story.
