Impressions of another McCracken County Region Victory

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Aside from the big zero in the loss column, one other constant remains for the McCracken County Mustangs against 1st Region and 2nd District opponents.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Mustangs have to prove each time they take the court whey they're ruled the roost in the Jackson Purchase since forming as a school in 2012. They started off the Izzy Myers Era with another one of those convincing 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-15) victories Monday against the young district rival Community Christian Warriors (0-3). The Mustangs generally win with sound first contacts, nice sets and powerful swings.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Mustangs did unofficially land 20 aces in the win, but did make the plays when they needed them. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='477251' first='Caroline' last='Presswood'] and [player_tooltip player_id='834881' first='Lilly' last='Hamilton'] led the way in the back row with senior [player_tooltip player_id='747076' first='Mollie' last='Canter'] getting in on the aggressive serving. then the setters in junior [player_tooltip player_id='1022305' first='McCoy' last='Gregory'] and Addy Parker did a great job setting up the hitters. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='747618' first='Neely' last='Nyberg'], Hamilton and junior Lucy Jones had at least five kills with nine total recording at least one each.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Community Christian head coach Maggie Prewitt said the biggest thing she wanted in this match was for the young Warriors to not give up on themselves. She agreed that only happened in the second set. Gregory made nice touches on her sets and involved a number of hitters. She took her time with some of the hitters that are not as smooth with their attack approaches as others. However, she did hit a number of them in their power zones. Gregory also showed aggressive play serving the ball. Gregory sent over a number of solid jump serves to keep Community Christian out of rhythm. Gregory said the team came out with a positive mindset and everyone contributes to wins. Nyberg does a great job getting on top of balls and putting great power into them. Nyberg consistently found holes in the defense and attacked seams with precision. She'll make a lot of things happen from the pins and middle this season when balls arrive in her power zone. Nyberg said the key to facing opponents like Monday is coming out strong and keeping a lead because the Mustangs could easily play down to the level of the competition. Presswood reads hitters and tries to quickly close down seams. She swings her arms out trying to dig up balls and only leans out of necessity. Hamilton makes plays at all six spots on the court starting with making the simple passes in the back row. Hamilton then moves up to the front row and takes solid swings. Hamilton has a great vertical jump so she can hit over and around blocks. Arnett goes for balls in her zone and does not try to do too much, knowing opponents are trying to hit balls away from her. Arnett squares her body up to balls to make crisp passes and is not afraid to dive if needed. Arnett is also an aggressive server.
