Middles to Watch at the Katy-Cy Fair Tournament

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The high school volleyball season officially kicks off in the state of Texas this week, and some exciting preseason tournaments are set to take place in the Lone Star State as varsity teams prepare to begin their district campaigns very soon.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of them is the Katy ISD-Cy Fair ISD Tournament, a traditional event that gathers some of the best programs of the Houston area and other regions of the state in the Katy and Cypress areas. In 2026, as many as 48 teams will play on six high school campuses in the area from Thursday, August 13, to Saturday, August 15.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Dig Texas will cover the event and take a look at some of the best players in the state very early into the new season, but before the action begins, let's introduce you to some of the most promising prospects who will be on the court in the event. Standing at 6'1", the sophomore offers them a strong presence at the net and should be an important part of their game. Bigley combines her impressive lenght with excellent footwork, and is extremely well-versed offensively, hitting a handful of different sets in the middle and doing a great job of finding angles to swing off the block. Extremely athletic and dynamic, the junior can be used in the middle or on the right, making a big defensive impact with her blocking. Gandy gets off the floor extremely well and is very intelligent with how she sets her blocking up, sealing the space next to the pin blocker when she's in the middle and showing great ability to read opponents and adjust when she's on the right. Equipped with long arms and a solid vertical, the junior can play a big offensive role for the team. Ward is versatile, being capable of hitting different sets in the middle, the left and the right, and makes use of her high contact point to overcome blockers and find the open floor across the net. The senior will probably be the team's top player this season and will have a key role on both sides of the ball for them. Kone is well-versed offensively, can score in difficult situations, and is very consistent with her production. A six-footer, she battles with the best middles in the state with her dynamic and highly-efficient game at the net. Miller is very prolific offensively and is a player her setters fully trust, because besides doing a great job of finishing sets with powerful swings, she's not one to force things, expertly using tips and shots when in difficult situations, finding creative solutions and avoiding errors.
