Five Who Made Their Mark

Beachside High School closed its week with another statement. Facing DME Academy, the Barracudas captured a 3-1 victory and pushed their weekly record to 2-0. The final score told only part of the story. This matchup featured big swings, extended rallies, defensive recoveries, and players willing to take ownership when points tightened.

Five athletes separated themselves through the way they influenced their teams. Beachside received production from several areas of the floor. DME countered with two players who kept challenging the Barracudas throughout the night. From net control to second-contact saves, these five made sure there was plenty worth remembering.

DME Academy simply could not find a comfortable answer for Arielle Bostic. The difference between Bostic's game last season and what she is displaying now is striking. Her offensive timing has taken a major jump. She got airborne quickly and turned available opportunities into forceful finishes before the defense could fully establish itself. Bostic also traveled the net with purpose as a blocker. She recognized developing attacks, got herself into position, and sealed space above the tape. Those closed blocks forced DME's hitters to reconsider where they wanted to swing. Bostic is not merely playing faster. She is processing the action sooner, and that development is changing what she can accomplish at the net. ~Sophia Jeanpierre @prepdig_fl

[player_tooltip player_id='741785' first='Nina' last='Simanic'] built her night from the ground up. Passing gave Simanic the early foundation she needed. Once first contact settled in, the offensive side of her game came alive. Then came the swings. Simanic attacked with intent and wasn't shy about challenging defenders. Her work in the front row added another layer. She tracked opposing hitters across the tape and worked laterally to get hands in front of incoming shots. Attackers expecting an uncontested lane suddenly had company. Simanic's progression throughout the match was noticeable. Each successful touch seemed to feed the next, allowing multiple parts of her game to connect.~Sophia Jeanpierre @prepdig_fl

Every lineup needs someone willing to handle the messy volleyball. [player_tooltip player_id='492547' first='Isabella' last='Taveras Seda'] continues to fill that role for Beachside. The Barracudas' defensive backbone remained alert through broken sequences and unpredictable contacts. When the setter could not reach the second ball, Taveras Seda stepped forward and delivered hittable options. She communicated available shots to attackers and helped Beachside find solutions outside its normal offensive structure. On defense, Taveras Seda stayed loaded and prepared before the opposing swing arrived. That readiness shrank available floor space for DME. Her influence isn't limited to spectacular saves. It comes from repeatedly being exactly where Beachside needs a volleyball player to be. ~Sophia Jeanpierre @prepdig_fl

[player_tooltip player_id='1021646' first='Laura' last='Santa'] brought a calculated edge to DME's six-rotation lineup. Before attacking, Santa studied the defensive alignment across the net. She searched for exposed court and adjusted her choices accordingly. A block might stop the first attempt, but Santa treated that contact like information. The next opportunity came with a new plan. That ability to make adjustments made the outside hitter increasingly interesting to watch as rallies developed. Her effort extended beyond attacking. When a first contact drifted away from target, Santa pursued it and worked to keep the possession alive. She gave DME a dependable presence capable of contributing from the front row through the back court. ~Sophia Jeanpierre @prepdig_fl

[player_tooltip player_id='1021647' first='Alexis' last='Szymanokowski'] covered serious territory while directing DME's offense. The setter chased passes away from target and still found ways to create usable attacking windows. Rather than rushing the delivery after arriving at the ball, Szymanokowski worked to establish her base before releasing the set. That footwork helped provide hitters with consistent locations to approach. Her contribution continued after the ball crossed the net. Szymanokowski transitioned into a defensive posture with her platform available and remained prepared for balls driven into her zone. For a setter asked to connect multiple pieces of an offense, her ability to move, organize, and immediately reset for the next responsibility stood out. ~Sophia Jeanpierre @prepdig_fl

Beachside Finishes the Week 2-0

Beachside walked away with the 3-1 result, but DME made the Barracudas earn it. Santa continued searching for answers offensively, while Szymanokowski worked to create opportunities from wherever the first contact took her. Their performances gave DME pieces to build around as the season moves forward.

For Beachside, the victory completed a resounding 2-0 week. More importantly, different athletes found ways to affect the outcome. Bostic controlled stretches above the net. Simanic connected passing with offensive production. Taveras Seda provided stability when rallies broke away from the original plan. That combination gave Beachside multiple ways to win points, recover possessions, and close out another early-season victory.
