The Future is Here - SA Up Next Top Performers Vol 3

Prep Dig Texas Showcases are back! We had a big event that was held at the Alamo City All Stars Center on August 15th. The Up Next showcase for the middle school classes was amazing! These events always bring together athletes from across the state looking to compete in front of coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. There were tons of awesome players that we evaluated from their awesome production. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. Let's take a closer look at three players who earned Top Performer honors at the San Antonio Up Next showcase.    The approach was the first thing that caught my attention. [player_tooltip player_id='1010421' first='Lena' last='Bartell'] loaded her swing with intention and the ball had authority behind it every time she made clean contact throughout the Up Next San Antonio Showcase. When the set was not perfect she solved the problem with her footwork rather than her arm and that kind of spatial problem-solving is not common in the class of 2031. She stayed defensively engaged throughout the scrimmage segments and never treated the back row as a place to rest between offensive opportunities. Court coaches appreciated the competitive consistency she brought from the first drill of the day to the last point of the event. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.     [player_tooltip player_id='1010597' first='Brooke' last='O'Neil'] is a player who does her job and does it right on every contact. Her passing platform was one of the more technically sound ones in the outside hitter group throughout the day and she delivered the ball with location rather than just keeping it in play, which gave her setter real options to work with on the second contact. On attack she trusted her hand placement and found angles rather than muscling the ball, a sign of a hitter who understands the game beyond just the swing. She was vocal between points and brought a steady energy to her side of the net that made the players around her more comfortable in an unfamiliar lineup. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.     Reading the game before the ball is served is what separates the liberos who are good from the ones who are genuinely special at a young age. [player_tooltip player_id='1002564' first='Isabella' last='Aguilar'] was already moving before most hitters in the scrimmage had finished their approach and that anticipation showed up consistently throughout both sessions of the Up Next San Antonio Showcase. Her platform mechanics were repeatable under pace that tested other defenders in the same gym and she tracked the ball cleanly through contact rather than scooping or redirecting late. She organized the back row with a vocal presence that held the defensive unit together even in a lineup built from scratch.
