South Paulding didn't start well, so the setter's job wasn't simply continuing something that was already working. She had to help find a better rhythm. Setter numbers can look deceptively simple.

Assist goes up, assist gets recorded.

What the box score doesn't explain is whether the pass was ten feet off the net, whether the setter had to sprint through traffic, whether the middle was available or whether she had to make a decision in half a second with the score tied.

These six setters stood out this week because they kept finding ways to make that second contact useful.

Setters rarely get to choose what the first contact looks like.

They just have to solve it.

Kami, Karsynn, Avery, Marissa, Kedializ and Ava have all been doing that in different situations — tournament schedules, comeback wins, strong team runs and difficult defensive rallies. The assist totals matter, but the ability to keep the offense usable is what makes the position so interesting to watch.
