Backrow Leaders: 2030 Libero Watchlist

It is reading the play before it develops, owning first contact, covering the court, and bringing a steady presence to the back row. Within South Dakota's 2030 class, several young defenders are already showing those qualities at a high level. There is plenty of development ahead, but the instincts, movement, ball control, and competitiveness are showing early. She reads the game early, gets behind the ball, and consistently delivers clean first contact. Basche can handle pace, cover ground, and stay composed when rallies get chaotic. She plays with the confidence and command you don't always see this early, and that separates her within the 2030 class. There is no hesitation in her defensive game. Peterson reads, reacts, and goes. Throener competes for everything, and that relentless mentality shows up possession after possession. She has the athleticism to make difficult defensive plays and the speed to cover a large piece of the backcourt. Her movement, instincts and ability to control first contact put her ahead of the curve for her class.
