The Colts came away with the three-set victory over the Knights, but the match featured plenty of competitive rallies, strong defensive performances, and momentum shifts—especially as the Knights battled to extend the match in the third.

The opening set was tight early, with the two teams trading points all the way up to 11. [player_tooltip player_id='891981' first='Gisela' last='Pavon-griego'] (Gigi) put together a great performance at libero for the Knights, while [player_tooltip player_id='1042625' first='Alexandra' last='Acre'] was steady in serve receive. [player_tooltip player_id='787775' first='Kendall' last='Klingenberg'] provided strong right-back defense, and [player_tooltip player_id='942796' first='Daycee' last='Pierce'] handled a lot of court in middle back to help keep rallies alive.

At the net, [player_tooltip player_id='878908' first='Emma' last='Caldwell'] made her presence known in the front row, while Taylin Moaratty came up with some big blocks. Eventually, the Colts began creating separation. Serve-receive errors from the Knights gave them opportunities to take control, and [player_tooltip player_id='886724' first='Grace' last='Gelder'] capitalized on overpasses with kills at the net. The Colts pulled away late to take the opening set, 25-16.

[player_tooltip player_id='787775' first='Kendall' last='Klingenberg'] immediately gave the Colts momentum in Set 2, opening things up with three aces from the service line. [player_tooltip player_id='888751' first='Brynne' last='Harwood'] added some impressive swings offensively, while [player_tooltip player_id='886814' first='Saydie' last='Vega'] remained solid in serve receive. The Knights continued battling defensively, highlighted by outstanding hustle from [player_tooltip player_id='890953' first='Katelynn' last='Shoop'] and Riley Thompson on some difficult passes and broken plays.

The Colts continued to find success through the middle. [player_tooltip player_id='936613' first='Makenna' last='Ramsey'] put up some huge blocks, while [player_tooltip player_id='886814' first='Saydie' last='Vega'] was nearly unstoppable attacking the two set and consistently kept the Knights' defense on its toes. [player_tooltip player_id='509700' first='Izzie' last='Penrose'] and [player_tooltip player_id='942796' first='Daycee' last='Pierce'] worked hard to keep balls alive in the back row, while Caldwell continued making an impact as a blocker. Still, the Colts' dynamic offense proved difficult to slow down, and they secured Set 2, 25-14.

The Knights weren't ready to go away quietly and came out with completely different energy in the third. Behind all-out defense from Gigi, they jumped out to a quick 4-0 advantage. Riley Thompson then went to work from the service line, helping extend the Knights' lead all the way to 8-0.

The Colts responded. Pierce helped change the momentum from the service line, while big swings from [player_tooltip player_id='886814' first='Saydie' last='Vega'] quickly erased the deficit. [player_tooltip player_id='509700' first='Izzie' last='Penrose'] eventually gave the Colts the lead from behind the service line at 10-9, turning what had been an eight-point Knights advantage into a back-and-forth battle.

Big swings from Riley McKinley kept the Knights right in it, and the teams found themselves tied at 14-14 as service errors on both sides made it difficult for either team to create separation. An ace from Madisyn Reisen helped push ACP ahead, but the Colts continued finding answers offensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='520375' first='Fara' last='Bronson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='886724' first='Grace' last='Gelder'] put together a nice run through the middle, with Fara doing an especially good job throughout the match of pulling opposing middle blockers and creating opportunities for the Colts' offense. Gigi continued extending rallies with some excellent defensive plays, but the Colts eventually found their rhythm again. Big swings from Saydie helped them regain control and close out the third set, 25-18, completing the sweep.

While the final scores favored the Colts, the match featured plenty of impressive individual performances on both sides. The Knights showed their fight with their third-set response, while the Colts demonstrated their ability to stay composed, battle back from an early deficit, and use a balanced offense to finish the match in three.

The school season has been quite a show, and we can't wait to continue following Arizona athletes and programs throughout the fall! The Colts came away with the three-set victory over the Knights, but the match featured plenty of competitive rallies, strong defensive performances, and momentum shifts—especially as the Knights battled to extend the match in the third.
