Creating the Attack: 2028s Making the Offense Go

Across North Dakota's 2028 class, there are players taking on that responsibility and showing a deeper understanding of how to create opportunities for the hitters around them. It's not always about the perfect ball. It's recognizing the block, changing tempo, finding the right matchup, and knowing when to go back to a hitter who is producing. These 2028s are becoming an important piece of how their teams attack, and there are several college coaches here who should be getting to know.    [player_tooltip player_id='883396' first='Nora' last='Balvitsch'] is past the point of simply getting hitters good balls. She is beginning to manage what the defense sees, and that is where her recruiting value gets compelling. She can create from different spots on the floor, adjust location to the hitter, and keep the offense moving when first contact pulls her off the net. Watch her feet when the pass breaks down and how quickly she finds another solution. Balvitsch has valuable skills that a college staff should evaluate now if they are looking for someone who can eventually take ownership of an offense. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='724913' first='Liberty' last='Streyle']'s experience shows in the way Streyle handles the offense. She doesn't rush through a point and has developed a good feel for when to establish a hitter, when to change the look, and when to trust the matchup in front of her. That composure becomes especially valuable when a team needs someone to settle things down. Streyle's consistency and ability to handle significant offensive responsibility should translate. Coaches evaluating her should watch the decisions she makes when the obvious option isn't available. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='748233' first='Alivia' last='Suda'] can change the speed of an offense. When she gets a quality first contact, she gets the ball out quickly and gives blockers less time to settle into their assignments. Her athleticism also helps when she has to chase a pass and still create something usable. That combination of pace and movement gives Suda an intriguing next-level piece. Put on her film and watch how much pressure she can create simply by making the offense happen faster. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='723230' first='Riley' last='Remmick']'s value is in how she uses the players around her. She can change tempo, move the ball across the net, and keep a block from getting comfortable with one tendency. The more compelling part is watching the opposing middle and how Remmick's decisions make that player work. There is thought behind where the ball goes. For programs that want to use the entire net and give their offense freedom, Remmick is a 2028 player worth knowing. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='727982' first='Collins' last='McQuillan'] brings something different to coaches with her size and front-row presence. At 5'9", she can be more than a distributor when she rotates to the net, and she isn't afraid to become an offensive threat herself. She can also keep creating when the pass forces her away from her starting point. Watch what McQuillan does on second contact and how opposing blockers have to account for her. That added dimension makes her an intriguing evaluation for programs that want more physicality at the position. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='728798' first='Harper' last='Odden'] has a creative side to her game that becomes most noticeable when the rally doesn't go according to plan. She can problem-solve, change the location of the attack, and find ways to give a hitter a legitimate swing from an imperfect first contact. Those are valuable reps to watch because the next level demands more than running an offense off perfect passing. Odden's touch and ability to create when things get messy give coaches a reason to spend more time with her film. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='743512' first='Sophie' last='Johnson']'s background as an attacker adds another layer to what she brings. She understands timing from both sides of the connection and has experience playing on the right, which gives her a feel for what a hitter needs to succeed. At 5'8", she also brings some presence to the front row and gives lineup options. For coaches evaluating Johnson, don't watch only where she sends the ball.
