Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

The high school volleyball years create wonderful life memories for everyone involved. Connections are strong.

That thought was the impetus behind developing these scouting-report/photo pieces a few seasons ago to act as yearbook pages. I've written as many of them as I could based on watching teams play in person. Hopefully, they capture that squad in words and pictures, and can be accessed years down the road.

Today, we look at Regina, who I watched play at the Iowa City High tournament in early September. The Regals competed closely with a pool of larger schools, knocking off Burlington and Lewis Central.

Regina graduated Reese Naeve, one of the top players in program history and a freshman at Iowa State, after reaching the state tournament the last two years. While the Regals miss their star, they showed at the City High event that they can get back to Xtreme Arena again.

Here's a closer look at student-athletes standing out followed by photos of Regina:

I've had the pleasure of watching Bollier develop her game durung the last few years. She's become one of the state's top back-row players by improving her consistency across the board. It's to the point where mistakes are very limited and plays are often made beyond the routine. That was the case when watching her compete in club earlier this year and again when scouting Regina at the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2026 season. The Samford commitment handled the big hitters from larger schools throughout the event. Bollier is technically sound with a strong platform. She moves well laterally and covers a lot of court. The Regal senior tracks the ball keenly in serve-receive and starts transition with pin-point passes. Bollier picks up on opponent tendencies and gets better as matches go on.

Gaffey impressed me this summer when she was standing out through six rotations at the USAV Nationals in Indianapolis. She built on that first strong impression while competing at the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2026 prep season. Again, the Regina freshman was holding it down through six, playing with great confidence and poise, especially for her age. Gaffey is skilled with an all-around game to terminate points from the pin or get the ball up in the back row. The ninth-grader is an excellent athlete that moves well laterally and flashes an impressive vertical leap. She shows potential in throwing up the block as well. Gaffey is a prospect on the rise.

A transfer from Liberty, Chandler brings a heavy swing to Regina. It stood out when watching her hammer away in club ball the last few years and again when scouting her in person at the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2026 season. The lefty right-side is tall with really long arms. She's an agile athlete that flows well with the action and can sky off of the court. Chandler generates a ton of power through her hitting operation and is capable of driving the ball through blocks. She's improving at reading them as well, which leads to ending points around the block or off of it. The senior is becoming more consistent in getting the ball to her spots. The ceiling is really high here. It will be fun watching her development continue during her career at Trevecca Nazarene.

Wilhelm has handled setting duties for Regina during its march to the last two state tournaments, ranking among the Iowa leaders in assists. The senior led the state in the statistic heading into this weekend's action, when the Regals were at the Iowa City West tournament. I saw her competing at the Iowa City High tournament a week earlier. Her consistency was a reason Regina hung with bigger schools and what's made her so successful in her prep career. Wilhelm has a good feel for where attackers like the ball and puts it there on the regular. A good athlete that stands out in track, too, the senior moves well around the court and is in position to make plays. She's improved her defense at the net and in the back row as well as ability to end points with her swing. Wilhelm makes sound decisions.

Regina's [player_tooltip player_id='1003130' first='Lexi' last='Gaffey'].
