A couple of weeks ago, Prep Dig Texas got to witness it firsthand as we attended the Houston Open 2026, a traditional tournament held at the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] facility that reunites most of the top private high school programs from the region for two days of action.

We recognized talent in many of the participating teams and will this week feature the players who delivered strong performances at the event. We begin with the setters:

Xu set for the Episcopal team that went undefeated in the event, amassing five victories. The sophomore benefited from the fact her team was in system almost the entire time to get the best out of her hitters, orchestrating quick combination plays. Xu used her middles very often and showed excellent technique and body control to get to tight passes at the net and feed her middles and pin hitters with one-handed sets. The setter also delivered when playing defense and kept opponents under pressure with her aggressive floater.

Tormis and her St. Agnes Academy team secured four wins and a loss at the Houston Open. The senior setter kept their offense flowing at a strong rhythm by playing fast, but intelligently. Her decision-making was always on point and managed to keep the team's offense well-balanced and efficient. Tormis also produced on defense thanks to her quickness and was very effective with her serving, targeting weaks spots in the opponents' serve-receive system to get them out of system.

Musgrove helped her Lutheran South Academy team produce three wins and two losses across the two days of action. One of the most talented setters in the entire state, she made everyone around her better thanks to her strong technical skills and superior volleyball IQ. Musgrove made. the absolute most of her hitters and boosted Lutheran South's offense with her well-balanced distribution and smart decisions in key moments. The setter also played excellent defense and was very consistent with her serving.

With Dumas at setter, The Woodlands Christian Academy ended the tournament with two wins and three losses. The junior had a big role with the team, contributing in different ways with her strong all-around game. Dumas thrived in her setting duties, running a fast-paced offense and still being very accurate with her locations. She took on hitting responsibilities when at the net, served very well and took part in the team's serve-receive system in some rotations, getting to make an impact in basically every aspect of the game.

Amparan played for the Frassati Catholic team that got two wins and three losses. A setter with good size and solid technical skills, the senior worked hard to get her hitters in good positions to score. When Frassati struggled with their passing, she did a good job of getting to the ball and consistently hitting the same locations with her sets. When she had all her options available, Amparan showed nice balance in her distribution, intelligently setting her three hitters at the net and the one at the middle back position.
