We've covered a lot of ground with North Dakota's 2030 class this fall, from setters and middles to pins and defensive players. As we wrap up this first round of watchlists, I want to recognize a few more athletes for what they've shown on the court. Some have impressed me with their technical skills, while others have stood out through their hustle, competitiveness, and willingness to do whatever their team needs. One thing I've enjoyed about this class is seeing the different ways these young players are contributing. This may be our final 2030 watchlist of the fall, but you'll certainly hear about this group again. I'm excited to follow their development as they move into club season and continue building their games.

[player_tooltip player_id='937846' first='Ava' last='Schommer'] is a young setter with an opportunity to make her mark through the work she puts into every rally. What I want to highlight about Ava is the effort it takes to keep an offense moving when the first contact isn't perfect. Setters have to cover a lot of ground, make quick adjustments, and still find a way to give their hitters an opportunity. That takes determination, especially when a rally starts breaking down. Ava also brings versatility to the conversation with her ability to play beyond the setter position. A young athlete learning different responsibilities on the court is valuable, and I like the potential it gives her as she builds her game. I want to follow her closely as she develops her leadership, consistency, and command of the offense. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

There is something about a competitive outside hitter that can change the energy of an entire team, and that's the side of [player_tooltip player_id='990708' first='Olivia' last='Schumacher']'s game I want to put under the spotlight. The outside position isn't always glamorous. You're expected to attack difficult sets, help with serve receive, transition off the net, and do it all again. It takes a player willing to work for every opportunity. For Olivia, I want to keep tracking how she handles those responsibilities and develops her attacking game. A strong approach, smart decisions against the block, and ways to contribute when the offense isn't running perfectly are all pieces that can help an outside hitter stand out. She's one of the young pins I want to see take that competitive edge into the club season. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='1043376' first='Aspen' last='Swenningson'] brings something I love seeing in a young outside hitter: the ability to threaten from all six rotations. That changes the conversation because we're not just talking about what she can do at the net. Aspen can influence a match from the service line, in serve receive, through backcourt defense, and as an attacking option. That kind of all-around responsibility demands work ethic and an understanding of the game. One of the most important things I value in a six-rotation outside is the ability to handle first contact, get right back into transition, and attack without taking a playoff. Aspen's all-around role gives her multiple opportunities to contribute, which is what makes her such an interesting player to monitor. As her offensive and defensive skills develop together, she has the foundation to become a valuable all-around pin. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

The middle position demands a different kind of work ethic, and [player_tooltip player_id='1047611' first='Navelle' last='Trenbeath'] is a player I want to recognize for what that role requires. A middle can spend an entire rally moving from one responsibility to another without ever getting a swing. Reading the setter, moving to close a block, getting off the net, and preparing for an approach all happen in just a few seconds. Navelle brings versatility to the discussion as a middle who is also listed on the outside, giving her an opportunity to develop different attacking skills. I especially want to follow how she uses that experience to become more effective at the net. The combination of blocking responsibilities, offensive movement, and the willingness to work through every rally is where a young middle can really separate herself. Navelle is another 2030 player whose development I am excited to follow. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas
