Tonight is the first night of the playoffs here in Indiana. Not all of the teams play tonight, but the journey to Gainbridge starts in earnest with matches all around the Hoosier State. Let's take a little time this week to talk about freshman that have made a major impact for their respective squads this fall.
A freshman outside hitter at Franklin Community, Liv's three kills per set are key for the Grizzly Cubs and their possible deep run in the post season. She hits a heavy ball and, with all of that emotional firepower as well, is part of the heart and soul of Franklin's young program.
Big and physical, Kendal's four kills per set power the Owls and give them a chance in any match Kendal plays. Getting a ton of high-end training from Circle City, Kendal's ability to effortlessly take over a match on offense while being a problem for opponents on the block is what she's known for, and is already seeing some early recruiting attention as a freshman.

Lithe and athletically active, Ainsley does a little of everything for the Millers. She maximizes her jump on each and every attack, is a primary passer in serve receive and will finish this fall with 200+ kills and 200+ digs in her rookie year. With that Munciana training, she's also marketable as a defender for larger colleges as well as a solid six-rotation outside for smaller schools.

Small but mighty, Story is the surprise story for the Raiders this fall. Her fiery demeanor, relentless work ethic and solid location on each and every set is the main reason Harrison is in the discussion for a regional-and-beyond run in the state playoffs. I love this kid's mentality—-JUST GO, and let the athleticism and high volleyball IQ do the work. At 10+ assists per set, this kid already knows how to run an offense well.
Plainfield's run to the state title match was epic last fall, but to remain there, holes needed to be filled in certain positions. Insert Elle into an immediate starting role on one of the top ten teams in the state, and watch her work. Unassuming, even at 6'2”+, Elle's ability to do the right thing and be around the ball doing the dirty work middles do looks innate to her. She has long arms on defense, is up and ready to swing in transition, and is rarely caught being lost or not being aggressive enough—-like so many other freshmen are in their rookie season. To know that the Quakers can rely on this young lady for years to come speaks volumes to the future of the program.
