Class 1 districts begin next week, and several top teams—including Winona, Bismarck, Liberal and Northland Christian—are looking to make another run to the Final Four. With Leopold, Valle Catholic, Mound City, Rock Port and Osceola also putting together strong seasons, Class 1 feels wide open. In a field this competitive, the team that gets hot at the right time could win six straight.

Class 1 District 1

North Pemiscot — 18-8-1

Holcomb — 20-9-1

South Pemiscot — 10-11

Delta — 7-8-1

Hayti — 2-15

Cooter — 3-14-1

Southland — 0-21

Prediction: This one should come down to North Pemiscot and Holcomb for the district title. North Pemiscot has beaten the No. 2 seed twice, including a more recent 3-1 win. In that match, 2028s Emma Wagley and Maelyn McCulloch combined for 32 kills. North Pemiscot completes the season sweep of Holcomb and wins its first district title since 2020.

Class 1 District 2

Gideon — 30-2-1

Bell City — 17-9-1

Campbell — 20-7-1

Bernie — 9-16-4

Clarkton — 17-16-1

Richland — 5-13-1

Risco — 9-18-1

Prediction: District 2 is more balanced this season, but the seeds should hold, with Gideon and Bell City meeting in the final. Gideon already has a tie and wins against Bell City: 25-22, 23-25, 28-26, and 25-19. Bell City was paced by 2027s Mollie Mannon and Gwen Bowling, who combined for 27 kills. Layla Watkins and Karli and Mattie Ashabranner led Gideon, accounting for 48 of the team's 50 kills. The match came down to a net-court battle, and Gideon pulled off a 3-2 win for the district title.

Class 1 District 3

Leopold — 27-4-2

Valle Catholic — 23-9-1

Oak Ridge — 23-6

Advance — 15-13

Meadow Heights — 18-10-1

Oran — 2-17

Zalma — 1-20

Prediction: This is the most balanced Class 1 district in the state. Powers Leopold and Valle Catholic, along with Advance, Oak Ridge and Meadow Heights, all have a strong chance to reach the final. Leopold has a 3-2 win over Advance, who should meet the Lions in the semifinals. Valle and Oak Ridge should face off in the other semifinal.

In the earlier meeting with Advance, 2027's Olivia Kennedy and Cashlynn Sturgeon combined for 38 kills, while Leopold hit .116 in the five-set win. Leopold takes the semifinal rematch, 3-1. Valle beats Oak Ridge in three sets to set up a final against Leopold.

Valle and Leopold feel like a toss-up, but Leopold has the edge against common opponents. Valle's two terrific middle hitters could cause problems for Leopold, though, and I'll take Valle in five.

Class 1 District 4

Bismarck — 20-8-3

St. Paul Lutheran — 16-13-2

Crystal City — 20-8-1

New Haven — 11-17-3

Valley — 8-14-1

Crossroads — 1-16

Chamois — 2-11

Prediction: This one should come down to defending Class 1 champion Bismarck and No. 3 seed Crystal City. Crystal City got revenge for an earlier-season loss to St. Paul Lutheran and should meet Bismarck in the final. Bismarck has already beaten Crystal City twice, 2-1 and 3-1. In their latest meeting, Hannah Schilly led the Hornets with eight kills, while 2028s Ayla Hawkins and Loryn Pierson paced Bismarck with 35 combined kills. Bismarck won in three sets, with 2029 Olivia Scott leading the way defensively.

Class 1 District 5

Russellville — 10-11-1

Calvary Lutheran — 13-7-2

Columbia Independent — 11-6

Christian Fellowship — 6-16

Laquey — 0-17

Prairie Home — 5-15

Bunceton — 1-16

Prediction: I don't know much about the teams in this district, but Russellville's schedule stands out: the Indians haven't dropped a set to anyone in the field. Russellville also doesn't post stats, so I can't offer much player-specific analysis. I'll take Russellville over Calvary Lutheran, 3-0.

Class 1 District 6

Eminence — 18-12-1

Ellington — 19-11-2

Summersville — 11-13

Lesterville — 16-9-2

Bunker — 7-16-1

South Iron — 6-18-3

Viburnum — 3-20-1

Prediction: This district is more balanced, and several teams have a legitimate chance to reach the final. Eminence has beaten everyone in the field except Lesterville, which swept the Redwings in their most recent meeting. Ellington lost to Eminence in its first game of the season but has beaten the rest of the district.

Ellington and Summersville should meet in the second semifinal, with Ellington advancing in another sweep. Lesterville should edge Bunker and meet Eminence in the first semifinal. Lesterville beat Eminence 25-15, 25-19, 25-10, behind 30 kills from 2027s Izzy Twomey and Rylee Laughman. Lesterville relies on three 2030s and two 2029s, and if they keep contributing significantly, I can see the team winning in five to reach the final.

Ellington is the defending district champion and has beaten Lesterville three times. Lilyanah Tisdale and Bella Pogue lead the way as the Whippets repeat with a 3-1 title win.

Class 1 District 7

Winona — 24-8-2

Couch — 17-11-1

Dora — 11-12

Bakersfield — 9-12-3

Koshkonong — 6-17

Mansfield — 7-24

Lutie — record not listed

Prediction: Last year's Class 1 runner-up, Winona, should win this district without much trouble. Dora beats Couch, then gets swept by Winona in the final. This is one of the most lopsided districts in the state, and Sadie Kile torches.

Class 1 District 8

School of the Ozarks — 19-8-3

Greenwood — 13-11-1

Gloria Deo Academy — 8-17-1

Chadwick — 7-18

Galena — 8-20-2

Niangua — 5-13

Bradleyville — 1-18

Prediction: School of the Ozarks beat Greenwood two weeks ago, 25-12, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20. 2029s Bennett Houston and Hailey Housley had big performances, combining for 29 kills while hitting .379. Greenwood doesn't post stats. School of the Ozarks wins the rematch in three sets, led by its 2029 class.

Class 1 District 9

Billings — 23-3-1

Crane — 9-11

Verona — 15-11-3

Purdy — 15-8-1

Hurley — 10-15-1

Wheaton — 9-15-1

Exeter — 4-24-1

Prediction: This one is all Billings, and Crane should meet them again for the title. In their previous meeting, Alexa Garbee finished with 35 kills, 14 digs, and 16 assists for a triple-double. Crane had a more balanced attack, led by Maya Minton. Garbee comes up big again, and Billings sweeps the district title.

Class 1 District 10

Lockwood — 26-4-2

Thomas Jefferson — 23-3-2

Greenfield — 16-11-1

Everton — 23-12-1

Jasper — 7-14-2

McAuley Catholic — 10-15-1

Golden City — 10-16-1

Prediction: Lockwood has beaten every team in this district this season and should meet Thomas Jefferson in the final. Lockwood swept Thomas Jefferson earlier, behind 19 kills from Asa Lasater and 18 from Reese Whitesell. After last year's district-title loss to Greenfield, Lockwood gets its revenge with a sweep to claim the title.

Class 1 District 11

Liberal — 20-7-2

Appleton City — 9-15-3

Rich Hill — 10-14-1

Sheldon — 11-14-2

Hume — 6-17

Northeast Vernon County — 2-20

Bronaugh — 0-15

Prediction: Liberal got hot at the right time last year, reaching the Final Four and finishing fourth. This season, the Bulldogs aren't a secret. 2027s Tegan Dyer and Ally Barton will lead them, and they combined for 29 kills while hitting .401 in a sweep of Appleton City earlier this month. Liberal has the experience and firepower to win the district and make another postseason run.

Class 1 District 12

Midway — 19-11-1

Archie — 16-9-4

Drexel — 19-7-3

Concordia — 15-11-1

Kingsville — 13-10-1

Ballard — 20-14-2

Miami — 6-15-2

Prediction: Archie and Midway should meet in the district final. Archie is having a strong season despite missing most of the year with one of Class 1's best players, Reagan Tenholder. If she plays in districts, Archie wins, but I don't think that will happen.

Midway has won all four meetings. In one of those matches, Dakota Dean led Midway with nine kills, while Gabby Mattingley also finished with nine for Archie. This one is a toss-up. I'll give Archie the nod because it's tough to beat the same team five times in a season.

Class 1 District 13

Osceola — 20-5-2

Crest Ridge — 14-5-2

Green Ridge — 13-11-1

Lakeland — 11-11

Lincoln — 5-12-1

Leeton — 4-20

Prediction: Osceola is among the top teams in western Missouri's Class 1 field and should reach the final to face Crest Ridge. Crest Ridge has already swept Green Ridge, and I expect that trend to continue.

Osceola and Crest Ridge haven't met, but Osceola beat Sacred Heart 3-1, while Crest Ridge edged Green Ridge 3-2. Osceola is led by 2030 Josie Belisle with 187 kills and setter Grace Peery with243 assists. 2028 Zoe Ducos and 2030 Ella Ring have combined for 410 kills. Osceola has played the stronger schedule and wins the district in a 3-0 sweep.

Class 1 District 14

St. Paul Lutheran — 13-12-4

Sacred Heart — 10-13

Smithton — 16-11

Otterville — 22-9

La Monte — 16-12-2

Sweet Springs — 19-8-2

Northwest — 2-20-3

Prediction: This district is a jumble, with nearly every team—except Northwest—having beaten another contender at some point. I'm leaning on common opponents and strength of schedule here. Sweet Springs and La Monte should battle for the title, and Sweet Springs will keep the upset trend going. Led by Abby Hudson and Keelee Price, the Greyhounds pull off their third straight upset and win the district, 3-1.

Class 1 District 15

Northland Christian — 17-18-2

Santa Fe — 17-9-3

Faith Christian — 13-13-3

Lutheran KC — 10-13-2

Wellington-Napoleon — 7-16-2

Academie Lafayette — 5-13

Orrick — 2-18

Prediction: Northland Christian and Faith Christian should meet in the district final. The teams are 1-1 against each other this season. Presley Day led Northland Christian with 11 kills, while Faith Christian doesn't report stats. The teams are 1-1 this season. Mound City won the most recent meeting, 3-1. Maggie Osburn had 23 kills, and Danica McDonald added 21 assists for Mound City, while Rock Port got a double-double from Braylyn Wood, with 16 kills and 33 digs.

This one will come down to defense and passing. Both teams have plenty of firepower, but the team that passes consistently and plays solid defense will win. Rock Port takes the district title again with a 3-2 victory.
