We've been jumping around the Heart of America age ladder while prepping for the fast-approach tournament sprint. Dozens of Kansas' top teams will converge to vie for a state championship, and every class will be well represented. However, we'll be particularly inclined to give the juniors their share of the spotlight.

We're starting in Class 6A, where defenses face constant tests from Kansas' most explosive prep offenses. This environment has allowed Araiza to flourish while putting up some tremendous defensive numbers for Wichita North. The junior libero is enjoying her second-straight season averaging over five digs per set, lifting the Redhawks to a 23-12 mark in the 6A West race. This is a clear addition to our next database overhaul, and we can expect Araiza to establish a permanent foothold in the 2028 rankings.

Ellegood joins a host of terminal juniors setting the pace in Class 5A. Her presence in the middle has catalyzed Great Bend's trek to the 5A West summit, posting a 32-3 record heading into late October. Ellegood has soared past a 0.200 hitting clip while making the most of one-on-one opportunities in front of the setter. Moreover, her growing confidence on the slide has allowed the Panthers to spread things around in two-hitter rotations. Balance will be key as Great Bend hopes to remain a title frontrunner.

Ballard has been a persistent standout at venues far beyond the high school circuit. Her six-rotation prowess captured our attention at Prep Dig Showcase events, and Dynasty 16 Blue took full advantage of that range en route to USAV Nationals. Now, Ballard is contributing to a huge uptick in Bishop Miege's win column, culminating in a 22-7 record in Class 4A. The Stags have received that familiar blend of frontcourt firepower and back-row finesse, putting Ballard firmly on our radar to close out the 2026 season.

Let's return to the backcourt as we pivot to Class 3A. Holcomb has been entrenched near the top of the leaderboards for a while, with a 33-3 record and a wealth of quality wins on the ledger. That consistency often comes through stout ball control, and Galliart takes this assignment seriously. She's no stranger to the high-volume dig performances, averaging a whopping six digs per set to add to the 1,500-plus she has accumulated throughout her career. But we're most drawn to Galliart's ability to make tough plays look routine--a telltale sign of a defensive leader.

This feature could use some setter representation, and Michaelis is a perfect candidate to carry the Class 2A banner. 2026 has been her breakout year as the full-time commander of Wabaunsee's offense. She had already showcased her prowess while distributing out of the back row, but her role has expanded while churning out 9.4 assists per set around the dial. Michaelis has not shied away from bringing some extra effort and physicality at the net, aiding an outstanding 28-9 campaign for the Chargers.

Much remains unsettled in the Class 1A-DI race, but we can expect Taylor and Osborne to have a say in the outcome. This upperclassman signal-caller has matched her impressive output from last season, making Taylor a multi-year focal point of Osborne's operation. She hustles to track down whatever pass she's given and is willing to take risks to get the middles involved. Her influence is also felt in the right-back area, where Taylor defensive instincts have kept the Bulldogs in marathon rallies. It's the perfect prep for a postseason sprint.

Finally, we land at Class 1A-DII. This group has given us plenty of efficient attackers for our 2028 database, and Leach is worthy of joining that crew. She has put down nearly two-and-a-half kills per set for Cheylin, pushing the Cougars to a 24-9 record. We've also had glimpses of Leach's setting skill, which often leads to clutch kills in out-of-system situations. Kansas is stacked with six-rotation gems at the pin positions, and we're happy to keep that narrative alive.
