Home court advantage was a factor, and Kempner triumphed 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-14), earning their 20th straight victory in the season.

Kempner vs. Lamar Consolidated - Photos

https://www.instagram.com/p/DeQj6_VjiuQ/?img_index=1

Kempner continue their incredible campaign, now having 13 wins and no losses in district play and a nearly-perfect 31-2 win record for the season. Lamar Consolidated have eight wins and four losses in district play and 19 wins and six losses in the entire season.

Players of the Match

Algard was Kempner's go-to scorer in the match and thrived in the role, putting the ball down with great consistency for them. The junior outside hitter was set at the pin, on the right, and on the middle back position and kept her efficiency level elevated throughout the entire match. Algard made the most of her high contact point and demonstrated excellent vision to fire swings towards the end line and to score off tips. She also handled the serves that went her way smoothly and had a solid blocking presence up at the net.

Playing as Kempner's starting libero, Luna was very reliable for them and helped keep the team's offense in a good rhythm by keeping them in system. The senior covered a lot of ground in serve-receive and was remarkably consistent and accurate with her deliveries. Luna also appeared well on defense, showing great quickness to get to the ball and excellent control to keep it off the floor. The left-handed libero had good moments at the service line, registering some aces and getting opponents out of system.

Bates was Kempner's Swiss Army knife and excellent with her ability to contribute in different areas of the game. The senior operated as a setter when she was on the back row and used her excellent technique and intelligent distribution to facilitate the Cougars' offense. She turned into a right-side hitter when at the net, and, despite not being very tall, made a big impact with her ability to get off the floor and swing the ball hard. Bates also joined the team's serve-receive system when she was at the net and did very well with her passing. Bates had a great serving run that helped Kempner pull ahead to win set three.

Ilagan made a big impact as a defensive specialist and had a major role in another Kempner victory. The freshman was very confident on the back row and split the court with Luna in serve-receive, doing a great job every time she had to make contact with the ball. Ilagan's defensive game was also very productive, as she not only did a good job of keeping the ball off the floor, but also worked hard to recover it when a teammate couldn't fully control it. She also served well, having a good run on set four that helped the Cougars create some separation and get close to the win, and was very precise when she had to set in transition.

Zepeda was Lamar's best player on the court and had a strong performance, appearing well in different areas of the game. The senior was technically a right side hitter, but wore a lot of hats for the Mustangs, getting heavily involved in basically everything they did on the court. Zepeda was the team's main offensive option and was set in basically every position of the court, making good use of her length and court vision to score at a good rate. She also offered solid defensive contributions, having a strong blocking presence at the net, working hard to keep the ball off the floor on the back row and being consistent in serve-receive for most of the time.

Howard had a strong game at the setter position and helped Lamar Consolidated compete for most of the time. The junior was very consistent from a technical standpoint, was reliable with her locations and did a good job of keeping all her hitters involved. Howard also read the game well and made good decisions with her distribution - on set three, she repeatedly set middle [player_tooltip player_id='893643' first='Princess' last='Onyegbuna'] in a moment in which she was doing very well offensively. The setter also appeared well on defense, producing some digs for her team.
