She plays with awareness and is always ready to spring into action when a ball comes her way. More importantly, Zoie understands that keeping the ball playable is sometimes the best decision. When a tough ball comes her direction, she works to get it high and give her teammates time to make the next play. That same mindset carries into serve receive. If she recognizes a hard-driven serve, Zoie does not try to do too much. Instead, she focuses on getting the ball up and keeping the play alive. That kind of decision-making is exciting at this age. Zoie is already showing that she understands how her first contact can help the entire team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1040239' first='Elsie' last='Mason']

Determined and disciplined, [player_tooltip player_id='1040239' first='Elsie' last='Mason'] brings a steady presence to the back row. One thing that immediately stands out is her defensive posture. Elsie stays low and remains ready throughout the play, which gives her a strong starting point when the ball changes direction. She also does a nice job reading what is developing in front of her. Rather than sitting back on her heels, Elsie stays active with her feet and adjusts as the play unfolds. As a result, she is able to get herself into better positions for contact. Elsie is already proving that she can be a dependable libero/DS. There is still plenty of room for her game to grow, and that makes her development especially fun to follow.

[player_tooltip player_id='1007140' first='Emersyn' last='McDougal']

[player_tooltip player_id='1007140' first='Emersyn' last='McDougal'] is showing off her versatility early. She plays libero at the club level while also taking on an outside hitter role in middle school. That experience gives her a chance to develop different parts of her game while learning how to read the court from multiple perspectives. As a passer, Emersyn's court awareness is a major strength. She tracks the ball well and uses that read to get herself into position before contact. Then, when the ball reaches her platform, she keeps her fundamentals simple and controlled Her goal is clear: create a high, playable ball toward the middle of the court so the setter has options. That consistency is an important piece of strong serve receive, and Emersyn is already putting it on display.

The Next Wave of 2031 Passers

These young defenders are still early in their volleyball journeys, but the foundation is already there. Serve receive is one of those skills that can separate young defenders early. It takes more than simply getting a platform under the ball. Strong passers read the server, move with purpose, and understand when to make the smart play instead of forcing the perfect pass.

This group of 2031 athletes is already showing those instincts. Each player brings a different style to the back row, but they share one important trait: they are learning how to make their first contact work for the team.

The Next Wave of 2031 Passers

These young defenders are still early in their volleyball journeys, but the foundation is already there. From smart decision-making to active feet and strong fundamentals, Zoie, Elsie, and Emersyn are showing qualities that can continue to develop as their competition level rises.

There is plenty more to come from this 2031 group, and these serve receive standouts are definitely ones to keep on the radar!
