The high school volleyball season is nearing its end and there are some teams and players who are making a name for themselves. This season has proven to be another great showing from our wonderful and amazing players. Let's take a look at some of the intriguing storylines from the Lone Star State as we head into the playoffs.

Tatum

Tatum has not lost many district matches under head coach Leven Barker. The Lady Eagles extended that streak to 111 straight league wins last week. They are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A by the TGCA and have won more than 30 matches this season. Setter Kumora Chatman is the engine of this offense. She dished out 64 assists with 30 digs and eight aces in two wins last week. Chatman delivers a consistent ball and keeps her hitters in rhythm even when the pass is off the net. Maddie Thornton is the top weapon on the pin with 32 kills and seven blocks over those two matches. Thornton attacks with power and is just as dangerous closing the block at the net. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='790818' first='Kyndal' last='Greenwood'] anchors the defense and dug 28 balls in those same two matches. Blakely Burns gives Tatum another big arm and added 14 kills with four blocks. Chatman and Greenwood shared East Texas Player of the Week honors from the Longview News-Journal. This team has climbed from No. 13 to No. 1 in the state poll in just over a month, and it does not look ready to stop. Who can stop this wave they are on? I am not sure there is anyone out there that can. Look for a steamroll in the playoffs.

Goliad

Goliad has made a habit of playing in November. The Tigers reached the state tournament last fall after going 44-3 and winning 37 matches in a row. It was the program's seventh trip to the state tournament. This year's group is 35-5 and has won 12 straight heading into the playoffs. Goliad sits at No. 2 in Class 3A in the TGCA poll. Coach Jess Odem has built a program that wins with consistency and ball control. The Tigers have dominated district play and won a set 25-0 against Luling on Thursday. Goliad has not dropped a set during its winning streak. That kind of control shows a team that serves tough and rarely gives away free points. The Tigers also tested themselves early against bigger schools and came away battle ready. With their state tournament experience, Goliad will be a tough out for anyone in the 3A bracket. Leading the way is superstar [player_tooltip player_id='546747' first='Addison' last='Yendrey'] who has a cannon and can score from anywhere. She plays out of the middle but also can swing on the pins out of serve receive. The East Texas A&M recruit will take this team very far once again. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='727263' first='Isabel' last='Sanchez'] runs a very fast quick set with Addison that is tough for anyone to slow down. She commands the court well and has tons of experience as a senior. Junior libero Sierra Arriazola has been phenomenal keeping the ball in system for the offense to run. Stay tuned for more from this squad as they chase the title.
