The high school volleyball season is nearing its end and there are some teams and players who are making a name for themselves. This season has proven to be another great showing from our wonderful and amazing players. Let's take a look at some of the intriguing storylines from the Lone Star State as we head into the playoffs.

Argyle Eagles (34-5)

Argyle has not lost a match in more than a month. The Eagles have won 15 straight and wrapped up the District 5-5A title while dropping only three sets in league play. Now that is seriously impressive. At 34-5 overall on the season, they are ranked No. 2 in the Dallas area among Class 5A and smaller schools. They have also been one of the top teams in the TGCA's Class 5A poll for much of the season. This team wins on the road and it has won 17 of its last 18 matches away from home. Going into the playoffs, that will be tough for anyone else who goes up against them. Argyle showed its toughness by rallying from a set down to beat Eagle Mountain, a team that came in with 29 wins. The Eagles do not rely on one player, and that balance makes them hard to scout. Some of the contributors are seniors [player_tooltip player_id='412642' first='Karsyn' last='Rogers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='484376' first='Betsy' last='Zhang'] who lead the team in kills. Super sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='847526' first='Alexis' last='Elsey'] will be leading this team for the next few years and she is really coming into her own with learning leadership at a young age. Junior setter Makenna Gregory is really spreading the ball around well to keep the defense guessing on where the shot is coming from. Their serving pressure and ball control have carried them through a district schedule that rarely tested them. Argyle has the top seed in the 5A Division II bracket within its reach. This is a team that knows how to close.

Aubrey Chaparrals (37-6)

Aubrey has the longest active winning streak among the top teams in North Texas. The Chaparrals have won 22 in a row and sit at 37-6. They won the 9-4A title last year with a 24 match streak, so this run feels familiar in Aubrey. [player_tooltip player_id='830963' first='Chloe' last='Miller'] leads the offense with 463 kills at 4.2 per set. Miller is a crafty outside who moves the ball around the court and finds holes in the defense. Paisley Hooper gives Aubrey a second big option with 427 kills. Hooper is also one of the area leaders in blocks, so she impacts the match on both sides of the net. Emma Conley runs the back row and was among the area leaders in digs early in the season. The only scare during the streak came in a five set win at Lake Dallas and Aubrey found a way to close it out. This team is battle tested and ready for a deep run in the 4A bracket. Are they a lock for a repeat? Stay tuned and see how they defend the title in November.
