Midsized Indiana High School Preview: Players To Watch, Part 1

We've moved through some of our smallest high schools in the Hoosier State, including everyone from new to us volleyballers to college committed studs. Now, let's spend the next couple of articles talking about some midsized (read 2A-ish) high schools from all over Indiana that have players ready to lead their respective squads to new heights this coming fall.    Small but mighty, Anna is the explosive spark to any roster looking for that jolt of energy and skill. Definitely a six-rotation star for smaller school consideration, Anna can also defend at a high level, and has done exactly that for Evansville United this past spring. Her ability to hit high and hard despite her size difference is a testament to her hard work and consistent approach to her craft.     Bethany, committed to NAIA Defiance, is a solid floor general that has high and quick hands that can be deceptive to defenses not fully prepared for her level of skill. Part of a senior-heavy squad at Heritage Christian, having Miss Ring at the helm of a solid 2A offense can be the difference between a nice sectional title and moving through the regional with ease. With her leadership, high-end volleyball acuity and driven work ethic, I expect HC to move well past the 22-9 record from a season ago.     A primary attacker and the would-be go-to player for HC, Ella's size, strength and bottomless well of energy and fire should keep her squad on the top ten map all season long. I like her high attack touch, as there aren't too many pin attackers her size still available in this class. Now that I think about it, there aren't too many close-to-six-footers available on the pins in ANY class here in Indiana, and Ella is a breath of fresh air for anyone looking for that size and strength combination.     Probably the strongest of the five listed here today, Kenley is a workhorse of a middle that has upper body strength for days. Quiet and unassuming, Miss Mitchell gets the job done from the middle, and would be a fine addition to a middle blocking position group at the next level, and would push some middles to be better because of her constant and consistent strength and athleticism. Between her size, jumping ability, the stamina to transition consistently on every ball and the pace with which she attacks, you could do a lot worse in this class and at this stage of recruiting than Kenley.     Wrapping up the senior-heavy class at Heritage Christian is Miss Laney, a loud-and-proud floor defender who is the human equivalent of a ball of fire that has volleyball running through her veins. Constantly directing traffic and confident in her first-ball touches, Whitney is more than capable to take the pressure off of her fellow passers and pass half the court in both serve receive and floor defense. Whitney will be an absolute steal for anyone looking for that spitfire of a defender to add to a DS position group at the next level.
