After winning its third straight Class B state championship, Chester will be under a microscope in 2026. The Fliers lost a talented senior class so this won't be the same team we saw roll thru last year's state tournament. There are spots to fill, touches available and returning players who haven't had to carry this much of the load before.

[player_tooltip player_id='839963' first='Jacy' last='Wolf'] is a familiar name in Class B. She was named First Team All-State after recording 362 kills, 40 aces, and 385 digs as a junior. (According to maxpreps.com)

Wolf provides Chester with choices because she doesn't have to have one job. She can play attack and defense and take up setting responsibilities when needed. All of it was on display in the Class B championship against Warner, where she had 14 kills, 16 assists, and 11 digs in the three-set win. That's a whole lot of confirmed production returning to the gym. This season, I expect Chester to put a lot in Wolf's hands with a different group around her. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

I'm ready to see more. The 5-foot-10 middle has spent two varsity seasons around an experienced Chester front row, and there should be more opportunities waiting at the net this fall.

This is where Schut can change things for Chester. Can she become a middle they look for more often offensively? How much ground can she take away with the block? I want to see her getting pinned to pin, closing seams, and becoming a bigger option in transition. There is room for Schut to take on more, and I'm interested in seeing what that looks like. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='932686' first='Ivy' last='Moyer'] the back row. The junior was listed as a defensive specialist last season, and this year could put her into situations where Chester needs more from her.

I want to see Moyer when teams start testing her. Serve her. Make her handle seams. Put some heat on her in the back row and see how much court she can cover. Those are the stretches that will tell us a lot. Chester needs steady first contact, and Moyer has a chance to become part of that answer. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Kaytee Wold and Ashlyn Tschetter were freshmen on last year's varsity roster, while Elise Van Hal is also a younger name in the program.

I'm not going to guess which one grabs a starting spot before we see them play. I do know there are swings and rotations available. Someone is going to get those opportunities.

We already got a small look at Wold during last year's state tournament. She served three aces in Chester's semifinal sweep of Bennett County and followed that with two more aces in the championship against Warner. That's the kind of contribution from a young player that makes me curious about what comes next.

Senior Vivian Herr also returns, giving Chester another upperclassman alongside Wolf while some of these younger players push for more time.

Chester isn't walking into 2026 with the same lineup that won last year's championship. That's obvious.

Wolf is back after an All-State junior season. Schut and Moyer have more room to take on bigger roles. Wold has already given us a glimpse of what she can do, and younger players are waiting for their shot.

There are questions with this team. But am I ready to move the three-time defending champions out of the Class B conversation before we see them on the floor?

Not yet!
