Across the court this fall, several young athletes are already stepping into meaningful roles and making an impact well beyond their experience level. Whether it's their confidence, athleticism, court awareness, or ability to compete in big moments, these five freshmen have continued to catch our attention. Plenty of development remains, but what they are showing now makes them five names worth getting to know early.

[player_tooltip player_id='828343' first='Emma' last='Howard'] brings some juice to the offense when she has the ball in her hands. She plays with tempo, gets the ball out quickly, and keeps her hitters ready because the attack can come from different spots. I like the confidence she shows in her decisions and her willingness to keep pushing the offense. She also brings another dimension to the net, giving her more ways to impact a rally than simply delivering the second contact. Howard plays with an energy that is easy to notice, especially for a freshman running the show. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='1004108' first='Rylan' last='Meurer']'s steadiness stands out. She does a good job of taking what the defense gives her and finding the hitter who has the best opportunity to score. She isn't trying to make every touch flashy. Instead, she keeps things moving, gives her attackers hittable balls, and stays composed when the first contact isn't perfect. That consistency matters at setter, and Meurer is already showing she can be someone her teammates rely on to keep the offense together. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='1018812' first='Ally' last='Raddant'] brings a different look to the position with her 5-foot-8 frame and ability to be a presence at the net. She plays confidently with the ball and isn't afraid to take control of the offense. What I like is that she can affect a point beyond setting. Her size gives her a chance to be involved as a blocker and makes her another player the defense has to account for when she's in the front row. Raddant has already shown a lot of tools in her freshman season. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='956342' first='Skylar' last='Stearns'] has caught our attention with what she does when a play doesn't go as planned. Not every pass is going to land right on the net, and Stearns competes to turn those tougher first contacts into something her hitters can still attack. She stays involved, works to get underneath the ball, and doesn't disappear when a rally gets chaotic. That ability to battle through messy points adds toughness to her game and makes her fun to watch running an offense. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='901711' first='Emma' last='Chamberlain'] brings a calm feel to the setter position. She doesn't look rushed with the ball and does a strong job of staying composed while deciding where she wants to go with the offense. That patience allows her to give her hitters opportunities without forcing the action. Chamberlain also looks comfortable taking responsibility for the second contact and settling things down when needed. For a freshman, that kind of composure continues to catch our attention. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Thank you, readers, for making this journey possible.
